Favorite Movie Franchise - Blu-ray Forum

OK, for the most part, franchises are meant as a means to generate many dollars for a studio. They are made not necessarily to make a great film (though Star Wars TESB, Godfather 2 and others break the mold) but to piggy back on a successful venture.

Believe it or not, there are a ton of Franchises out there and before Star Wars, I can't think of one. (Was Rocky first?)

A franchise includes so much more than the pissing match that seems to be the box office numbers. It does include DVD, Blu, merch, collectibles, on demand and so on.

So I ask you this.

What is your favorite "Franchise". Not the most successful, or top grossing, but as a whole kit, what group of films do you like the most.

Crap there is so many so forgive me if I left out yours. I am trying to stay with the top of the top.

And of course I left out Rocky and Rambo. Oops I must subconsciously hate Stallone.

can you technically call 2 films a "franchise"? i'm just curious. i guess you can call anything a franchise, but i kind of always thought of a "franchise" as 4 or more films, since 3 is a trilogy... but anyway, back to the topic.

i haven't seen a lot of ALL of some films of these options, but of the one's i have seen all of...

1. BOURNE trilogy - love all the films. few trilogies have all solid / terrific outings, this is one of the few (imo, of the ones i've seen all of)

although, after finally watching The Terminator - and loving it 0 i'm anxious to see the next 3 films, so this franchise might just be #2 or #3, but for right now #2 belongs to...

2. ALIEN FRANCHISE. i only count this as the first 4 films, i see the "vs" films as something else entirely (something awful...). i know people hate the third film, but i get joy out of it.

Agreed the Vs. films do not count. I also purposely left out National treasure.

See there are so many movies made JUST to make money off of the original story.

I wonder if instead of Iron Man it should be The Marvel franchise since they all interconnect. Iron Man 1 and 2, Incredible Hulk, Thor Cap America, Avengers.

I went with Lord of the Rings.
Return of the King is my favorite film, Two Towers is probably in my top 15....and Fellowship is really good.

My top 5 of the list is:

Lord of the Rings - Contains my #1, and another somewhere in my Top 15

Batman Nolan - Has my #2 movie and I love the other movie.

Pirates of the Caribbean - I actually love all three of the movies unlike most.

Terminator - I like all 4, but only Terminator Salvation/Terminator 2 are considered movies I love.

and I guess Star Wars - contains my #3 movie, and I enjoy all 6 to varying degrees (I love Ep. 3, 4, 5. Really like Ep. 6. Moderately like Ep. 1 and 2).

If you would have listed the Marvel movies as a series (like GS mentioned above), that would be my #5.

Thats how i looked at it when i voted since IM started linking together the Marvel Universe.

That's why I voted for it too.

I think it would be cool to be able to pick multiples. Which Franchises do you like? There's a lot I do like, but many I don't as well. Liked the first Matrix a lot, but could do without the follow ups (no replay value for me)

I went with Star Wars, although everyone knows what my favorite franchise really is...duh, Halloween! I also love the Rocky and Rambo franchises, as well as the Friday the 13th movies, which also were not on the list...sweeeeet.
