Default I don't understand Facebook Campaigns

There's a new one where people are putting pictures of cartoons to "Stop Violence Against Children"

How does this stop violence against children? You know what can stop violence against children? Helping and supporting a cause like UNICEF.

There were others like women posting their bra/underwear color to spread awareness of Breast Cancer.

I think ALL women are aware of Breast Cancer. Posting you bra color doesn't do anything. Want to really help? Avon hold walkathons throughout the year. That makes real change happen.

So can anyone explain these to me? I really don't get it.

Shows your support, inspires other people to support the cause, I guess.

The bra/underwear thing sounds like a pervert's way to solicit some private info.

Which begs the question...how many of these campaigns are genuine...?

That's my entire point, I've never been able to find a valid source for any of these.

Like this recent one, theres no valid link or page that details WHY people should do it.

Facebook is really a cry for help....maybe these people who start petitions didn't get the attention from their parents when they were kids. But what you are describing is a Look At ME! syndrome.

If people really want to help, they volunteer and open their wallets.

Question Group charity.

I think that it may be a good way to meet people in your area, then you can raise money and stuff like that together. I never use Facebook though so I'm not certain. A lot of the people at my high school that volunteered, liked to do it in groups. I give my money, but that's it. Seeing animals in horrible situations upsets me too much, so I'm selfish and avoid those situations.

The folks at Reddit and now calling it Slacktivisim. Too lazy to actually donate anything worthwhile to the cause, but still want people think I care.

Never thought I'd see the day when someone questioned the point of raising awareness about issues such as breast cancer, violence against children, suicides, etc.

Default I doubt that it does much.

If it does nothing, then what's the point? People are not going to suddenly figure out what child abuse is from someone's facebook page.

So now raising awareness is pointless?

Any publicity is good publicity (in this case).

I don't think any of these campaigns works at all ever.

But, it was fun to put up a cartoon pic in my profile anyway.

It's not raising awareness that's my point. People are already aware of child abuse, breast cancer etc... Posting that stuff on Facebook does nothing. If people already care they will donate money and time on their own.

It really isn't about awareness anymore, especially movements like these Facebook campaigns. They are purely circlejerks for everyone involved.

Breast cancer is almost in a league of itself lately. It has become a marketing gimmick for a vast majority of those giving 'awareness.'

Mike this thread seems to be a campaign against a campaign.

Regarding facebook though, I am done with it, and its not what it used to be.
