United Kingdom Amazon.Ca Steelbooks.

Some of us UK folks might have noticed that in Canada they are launching 7 new Steelbooks, which are most likely to be region free.

There has been alot of chat about them so I have provided you with the links.

If your like me and have ordered some or would like to (4 in my case ive pre-ordered) then I thought it would benefit the U.K. Community by posting the links

Sin City
Kill Bill Vol 2 & Kill Bill Vol 1
Memento
Hot Fuzz
Pan's Labyrinth
Shaun of the Dead
Law Abiding Citizen
Traffic
History of Violence

*Correction* Orders over £18 may have to pay import VAT which can be calculated here:

DUTY CALCULATOR

I'd love a Shaun of The Dead Steelbook, but from Canada?

Hmmm

Hmmm
Doubt it will look like that - if you look at other current Alliance SteelBook releases ("Gangs of New York", "No Country for Old Men" etc...) the designs are simple with English text.

Don't forget that Amazon add shipping charges to the total cost, so you've got to make sure the total price + shipping doesn't exceed £18 to be completely safe from customs.

btw, if you've pre-ordered 4 of them and they end up shipping together, you'll get a huge customs bill...

The total for all 4 Blu-rays came to £67 including postage.
As this is under £135, I will not pay duty.

Please bare in mind orders over £18 pounds are aimed at "Commercial consignments" thats not consumers, which we are.

Also when the value of the goods is declared, postage is not counted.
I'm not sure on the details but I'm 99% sure you'll get charged duty/VAT/Customs or whatever if any goods are imported and over the limit they state (£18).

Anyone else know more?

I order from outside the EU alot for comics and some blu-ray.

Last orders i recieved were for Blu-rays at £22 (before postage) each and for comics at $110 and no custom's fee's for any.

Maybe you got lucky. There's no way the government will allow people to import up to £135 at a time.

I'm not discrediting you. Just pointing out that I think £135 seems too high to be completely VAT free.

You'll pay VAT and a handling fee (RM is around £8) on anything over the £18 threshold (except gifts).

The worse case senario is getting charged VAT, though this can slip through.

I set up this thread to make clear what you will or will not get charged for, take it or leave it.

Just keep it under £135.
That may seem high to us, but its low in terms of imported goods.

2.2 Do I have to pay import duties and/or import VAT on goods sent to me?

Most goods arriving in the UK from outside the EU are liable to any or all of the following taxes:
customs duty
excise duty
import VAT

and must be paid whether:
you purchase the goods or receive them as a gift
the goods are new or used (including antiques)
the goods are for your private use or for re-sale.

Value Added Tax (VAT) - Import VAT is charged at the same rate that applies to similar goods sold in the UK and applies to commercial goods over £18 in value, and on gifts that are over £40 in value. The value of the goods for import VAT is based on the:
basic value of goods, plus
postage, packing and insurance, plus
any import (Customs or Excise) duties charged.

Customs duty - Customs duty becomes payable if the goods are over £135 in value but is waived if the amount calculated is less than £9. Customs duty is usually charged as a percentage of the value of the goods.

http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsP...ment#P123_9110

So in short the £18 rule still applies and you may be charged import duty on Blu Ray orders over that

Touché

Ive ordered so many times from the states and never been charged. Must have gotten lucky.

soz Simon_LDT for being hostile, found a duty calculator, so i could pay £10 VAT.

works out to be £20 a blu-ray after import VAT. not too bad.

No worries. I don't really know all of how it works either. Seems that VAT and Customs are seperate charges.

There is more chance of Amazon stuff getting charged than any other when going through Mount Pleasant. If any slip through the net then you have been very lucky.

Amazon.ca/com and PlayUSA are terrible for getting hit with charges.

I have ordered them individually and via slow boat to china method. Worked out at just over £17 per SB, which I thought was okay. Not fussed when they turn up.

Works out around £19 per SteelBook (I ordered 4) using the 4 business day delivery option, and then there's VAT and all that. I'd rather pay a little more than wait an eternity.
