Worst Fruitcake

Write or post pics of your worst/best fruitcake experience. It is part of the yearly Xmas ritual: slowly picking away at that heavy suger sodden lump that has the consistency of granit. One half gets eaten with the all-seeing family present, which then sits in my stomach like a brick... the other half finds its way into the bushes. I almost got caught in the act one year.

It's about the dreadful Xmas fruitcake. The this is about as close to what I get at this time of the year, lol. Get an upset stomach just thinking about it.

My mom actually makes a pretty good one. It's nothing like you see in stores. It's fresh made, not vacuum-sealed from 1963.

Plus it actually has a consistency of a cake. After eating what she makes(still waiting for mine this year) I can't even look at the commercial ones.

I actually like fruitcakes. =P Mind you, I haven't had one in like 15 years, but.... =)

I like fruitcake. Always wanted to order one from the trappist monks but haven't pulled the trigger.

I agree. Some are more palatable then others. If they were something like the one pictured above, I wouldn't be tossing mine away outside.

Looks store-made and not particularly enticing.

If I want a fruitcake at Xmas, it has to be a Jamaican or Trinidadian black cake (pic below):



My aunt makes an exceptional black cake. She soaks the fruits in Caribbean gold rum (which has an underlying hint of molasses taste-wise) for about a year, and you can taste it in the final product. It's unbelievably, undeniably good.
