Are soundbars good?

I'd like to know too. I have a 26" HDTV and a small bedroom. My TV speakers are pathetic. But I don't want 17 speakers cluttering a already small room.

My living room is not practical for a multi-speaker setup, though in time I may put one in the basement. I would like to try the Yamaha YSP-4100 or 5100. I know they are not cheap!
