A little rough round the edges, either there's a strong heat haze or double-image from dodgy capture. If it's heat haze it should look better in motion.

Otherwise solid and stylistically pleasing. Can't see the faces clearly yet.

According to Alvion's website, they did some outsourcing work for SIREN: New Translation / Blood Curse.

First Details: PS3's Malicious

According to the magazine, Malicious is a 3D action game that's meant to offer a simple play experience. Your goal is to defeat a dangerous group of creatures known as the Malicious.

The game's stages are actually just big boss fights. You start off each stage in a face off against the boss and his subordinates. There's no buildup to the boss.

As your weapon, you make use of a special black cloak that hangs from the main character's neck. The cloak, created using technology from the great prophets, changes into a variety of forms. As an example, the cloak can becomes a fist for close range melee attacks. It can also become a projectile weapon, making use of "demon bullets" to target multiple enemies with a lock on.

The cloak can also wrap around you to guard against incoming attack.

How all this will work out in terms of controls is unclear at present, as Famitsu's coverage is in the form of a tiny capsule preview.

Malicious is set for PSN release some time this year.

Famitsu.com delivered an expanded look at Malicious today, revealing a number of new features, most notably a Mega Man-esque boss power system.

Avalon first announced the download-only PS3 action title in teaser site form back in June. The game re-emerged a couple of weeks back in a Famitsu preview.

Today, Famitsu.com shared screens and additional details on the game's story and gameplay sides.

Malicious puts players in a fight against a dangerous group of creatures known as the Malicious. As your weapon, you make use of a special cloak which is said to have the power of the prophets and can take on various forms. Among those forms are a fist for close attacks and a shield, with the cloak wrapping around your body to keep you safe from incoming attacks. The cloak also becomes a projectile weapon, allowing you to target enemies with "demon bullets."

There is no actual stage progression in Malicious. Instead, all stages start you off directly in big fights against a boss and his subordinates.

You're able to freely select your next stage. Your ordering could be important, as clearing a boss gives you that boss's powers in the form of a new action. Your character also gains power in other areas, including increased jump height and the ability to lock on to a greater number of enemies with your demon bullet blasts.

A PSN release is set for some time this year.

Those early screens were flaky, but I really like the new ones! The art style sort of resembles Valkyria Chronicles without the pencil-style crosshatching and opting for a more watercolor-ish look.

The cloak is a cool twist on Bayonetta's hair-armor/weapon, and looks just as cool and stylish here.

I approve - now localize in English please!

Malicious, Alvion’s Action Packed PS3 Game, Is Getting An English Release Soon

Last year, Japan got a neat downloadable PlayStation 3 game called Malicious. You’re armed with a clock that transforms into different weapons and a shield, which you use to fight enemies.

Alvion said they were working on an English version of Malicious, but haven’t said anything aside from a tweet. The English version is coming, though! We spotted a rating in Korea’s Game Rating Board for Malicious Eng. ver. with Sony Computer Entertainment pegged as the publisher.
