The German Blu-ray is as far as I know the best release available

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Lord-...Blu-ray/19537/

For one it has an English DTS-HD 5.1 MA audio track.

I've held off on the German, as I wasn't sure regarding it having subs for the non-English dialogue scenes.

It does, I have the AUS version which is weirdly the same as the DE version. I assume Fox only holds the rights in Australia and Germany? I can confirm that there are subtitles for the non-English dialog as well as a full English pop-up menu. The disc is perfect in my mind, the video is at a rock-steady 36Mbps, I saw a bitrate scan of the disc once and it was literally a straight line. Audio is excellent, great lossless quality. If you want the best version available I cannot recommend seeking out either the German or Australian release (whichever you can find cheaper) enough!

No, there is an SDH English subtitle track as well. Oddly for a release mainly thought of as German the English subtitles for foreign dialogue are burned in. I've been told that the French release from M6/WB has French subs burned in for these sections so this is a weird blessing for us English speaking importers. There are German subs and German foreign dialogue only subs to match the English. Also both languages get a sub track for the directors commentary.

I took some shots to show how the burned in subs and titles look. I spoiler tagged them and resized the images to 720p in order to save bandwidth.

So how bad is the UK Momentum disc compared to the US? Any reviews for the German BD?

I've never seen the US disc, but the UK disc was one of those early BDs that Momentum put out,
along with District 13, that barely look like HD, IMO.

Do not under any circumstances touch the Dutch release.
A horrible looking 1080i/50z transfer, that's also cropped.

I translated this review of the German disc, from Cinefacts.de:

Quote:
Was not even in direct comparison with the special DVD of Lord of offers in the encoded 2.4:1 Blu-Ray was extremely good. With the help of the beautifully presented and above all, the disc reproducing film grain Like an analogous action cinema-quality. Luckily, was omitted in the permanently existing grain to electronic filter inlet. The sharpness and detail is offered in both bright and dark scenes and in the long shot at a high level. Few shots are advised softer. The drawing also faltering only in scenes with not too dynamic contrast. Here there is indeed a rich black, but live it up from too many video contents. There are at least in the second half of the film plenty of dynamic sections. The second criticism is always visible double contours. These were clearly visible even on the DVD. The color palette is perfectly adapted to the venues. In the northern hemisphere rather desaturated and is sunny in the south and strong. Thanks to the very high data compression rate is not visible. Minimal analog defects such as flashes are sometimes visible. Overall, a tremendous increase to the DVD!

Received the German disc today.

Some minor edge enhancement, but nothing troublesome.

The bitrate is insane!

Well worth the import.

you are saying that we have expensive shipping where as we spend $40 dollars on some of our blu rays so we pay just as much maybe more and I tried to import house on a haunted hill 2000 edition and it was going to cost $68 dollars for a $10 movie which too me is way more expensive,

anyway i was thinking that a person from UK or USA could set up a store or a website where they could send the stuff with cheaper shipping.
