Hey everyone, quick question here. What's the best way to sell albums? A few years ago, my mother passes away so I'm just now getting around to getting rid of some final things and have a couple of boxes of albums and a box of 45's. Most of the albums are from the 60-70's. Wasn't sure if I should find a local shop or what. Thx.

The only thing I'm afraid of with selling them over the net is that with me having no knowledge of how to tell what condition (scratches, etc) a record is in, I don't want to sell something that is in bad condition and shouldn't be sold.

I would suggest checking out Music stack.
Music Stack Music Marketplace I have actually found and purchased quite a few rare albums via this website. In theory, it is like an Ebay for Vinyl/CDs. I believe one can set up a seller's account as well and you can host your albums for sale via this site. I have only ever purchased from this site though, not sold, so I don't have any personal experience selling via this site, but always have had tremendous experiences purchasing through it. |

My pleasure. It is. Sellers from all over the world list there. I have ordered pressings from Germany, the UK, Japan, France, etc. That site is how I was able to find an original mint copy of Harvest's release of Pink Floyd: The Wall for like $30. Amazing! I made around 35 purchases via that site and never had one problem at all. Mostly A+ sellers.

If you're just looking to move them out in as-is condition, I'd agree that Craigslist is the way to go. As an example I bought 200 lp's from the 60's, 70's and 80's off of CL for $25.00 just last year. It didn't matter to me to even look at them. I figured if 10 of the 200 were worth keeping I was ahead of the game.
I would advise that you at least look through the collection first just to see if there is anything "special" in there. Original pressings of mono Stones and Beatles LP's (for example) are going to fetch more money and I'd list those for sale individually. Also, for some reason 45's seem to be in demand these days. |
