Default Formal standard announced for active 3D glasses

Just seen a story stating that Panasonic and XPAND have come up with a formal standard for active 3D glasses.

I know XPAND have had some sort of universal 3D glasses system for a while, but so far as I can tell, this formal industry standard is a new - and potentially pretty major - development.

Am I right, or am I getting all worked up about nothing as usual?!

Also I haven't yet seen this story reported anywhere else, making me wonder how accurate it is. It seems credible enough, but if anyone else can confirm it with another source, that might be helpful...

From the article:
Quote:
Of course, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that the likes of Sony, Samsung, Toshiba and LG are conspicuously absent from the current list of participants, but we guess you have to start somewhere.
So, I guess, we can expect a few more standards from those companies as well.

Engadget mentions, quote:
"Initial plans for the spec cover only IR sync, with the RF Bluetooth technology [...] to "be considered" for the next step."

I wonder 'when' this next step (from InfraRed-only to include BlueTooth also) will be then. Hopefully, this year still...

It is a major step for Panny users. Hopefully, other OEMs join and standardize 1 Glasses that works for all.
