I find Manhunter a far superior film than Red Dragon. It was more tense, the acting was better, Petersen was more believable, the list goes on and on. Cox was also great as Lecktor, and Noonan was one of the more scary villians in movies today.
With Red Dragon, it was ok, i like Norton, but i found he couldn't carry the film. i thought Fiennes was horrible, and Hopkins was ok, but did not match his performance in SOTL. Lets hear your thoughts ![]() |

If I could have, I would have voted for BOTH.
I like Originality... but I also like Continuity... William Petersen, Joan Allen, Brian Cox, Dennis Farina, Tom Noonan, and Stephen Lang were a really good ensemble... but that shouldn't take anything away from Anthony Hopkins, Edward Norton, Ralph Fiennes, Harvey Keitel, Emily Watson, Mary-Louise Parker, and Philip Seymour Hoffman ![]() If David Fincher had any inspiration in delivering ZODIAC, I would have pointed-out MANHUNTER, because of it's originality ![]() Last edited by Sylentwolf; 02-24-2011 at 07:13 PM. ....another reason why Red Dragon outshines MH.... Quote:
....and it's so dated. When I watch MH (I've seen it 3 or 4 times, actually....I've ceased trying to see what it is people like so much about it), I feel like I'm watching a Miami Vice episode with a watered-down script/characters. Red Dragon rolls up Manhunter and smokes it. ![]() |

thats actually one of the main reasons i DONT like Red Dragon, it was just a cheap cash-in on Hannibal Lecter. i like that Manhunter focuses more on Graham like the novel. William Peterson is fantastic in the role and Tom Noonan is creepy as hell.
i admit that Hopkins is the best Lecter, but that doesnt change the fact that everything else about Red Dragon is mediocre. |

if we're comparing who was the best Hannibal Lector then for sure Anthony Hopkins wins but as far as the movies themselves---
MANHUNTER did everything better-- that's so evident when you see the scenes in RED DRAGON that try to duplicate... and come up short everytime.. I liked RED DRAGON and HANNIBAL but they're nowhere close to the greatness of SOTL-- and they're not as good as MANHUNTER either |

It reminds me of how our home video camera from the 80s looked (we had a Hitachi two piece where you had to hook up the camera to one piece and carry one of them around.) |

Manhunter by a ludicrously massive margin. That film is an underrated masterpiece. Red Dragon, on the other hand, is Hollywood garbage directed by a hack who dumbs down everything that made the original great.
Sorry, I just really hate Red Dragon, haha. |
