Default Watch Major League Baseball on PS3! MLB.TV App Live Today (free father's day weekend)

Hi Everyone – I’m excited to show everyone the new MLB.TV application for the PS3 that will be available from PlayStation Network, in both U.S. and Canada, later today. This app allows MLB.TV subscribers to watch every regular season game live in HD (local blackout restrictions do apply), with tons of new interactive features designed exclusively for PSN.

Some of the unique interactive features that we show in the demo include:
  • MLB Scoreboard – See a schedule of today’s games (and set options to control whether or not you see the scores)
  • Home and Away Feeds – Choose to watch either the home or away broadcast feed
  • HD quality video and DVR functionality – watch a live game in HD (with Live Game DVR functionality that lets you pause and rewind live games of fast-forward back to live game action)
  • Season Archive – Want to re-live a great moment? Go back and watch games you’ve missed from earlier in the season.
  • Scrollable Linescore – Go directly to any half-inning to watch only that portion of the game.
  • Favorite Teams/Calendar Schedule – Scroll through the entire 2010 Major League Baseball schedule in calendar format or designate your favorite team(s) to see the schedule for that team.
You can now download the app from the “Media” category on PlayStation Store, and launch it from the Video section of the XMB.

You must be an MLB.TV subscriber to fully utilize this app (some features, such as the calendar schedule, are available to everyone for free). There are two annual packages: MLB.TV is $99.95 and MLB.TV Premium is $119.95. If you aren’t already a MLB.TV subscriber. The site to sign up will go live later today. Once you’ve subscribed, link your MLB.TV subscription to a PS3 (via the app), and enjoy the season!

This is truly the ultimate baseball viewing experience from MLB.TV and PlayStation Network. Enjoy!

New 2011 upgrades include:
  • Highest Quality HD Streaming – Speed detection technology gives users ultra-HQ video access (NexDef 4.5 mbps) depending on available bandwidth.
  • Enhanced Audio – In-game alternate audio selection allows users to overlay the home or away team’s broadcasters over the live video or use the “Park” option to include the ballpark’s natural sounds.
  • Quick-Access Stats – View player cards with full career stats, league leaders, and in-game stats including AB, R, H, RBI, K, BB, SO, LOB, AVG, HR, SB.
  • Event Navigation – Select in-game event types, such as home runs, hits or stolen bases, to show on a progression timeline and jump directly to the at bat where they happened.
  • Improved User Interface – User-friendly design makes it even easier to browse.

The Sony Corporation will announce Thursday that it has signed a deal to bring Major League Baseball’s live streaming service to PlayStation3 video game consoles.

By the end of the week, PlayStation owners will be able to sign up with MLB.TV to watch out-of-market baseball games transmitted over the Internet. It is the latest in a series of digital distribution deals recently announced by sports franchises.

Sony said the baseball deal signified its repositioning of the PlayStation console as a hub for digital entertainment. Peter Dille, the senior vice president for the PlayStation Network at Sony Computer Entertainment America, said in an interview on Wednesday, “This is more than just a game console. This is a device that is redefining how content is being delivered to the living room.”

I'm not sure what the subscription cost is for MLB.tv, but I know for a fact that NHL Gamecenter is overpriced. $20 for a day pass in the playoffs.

Sony and MLB have announced a deal to bring the Internet subscription service MLB.TV to the PS3. Those who already subscribe to the online service (http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/subscriptions...=MLBTVREDIRECT) can now link that to their PS3 for free by downloading a free MLB.TV app in the PlayStation Store. Other PS3 owners need to first subscribe to the service, priced at $99.95 annually for the basic service and $119.95 for the premium service.
great news for all the baseball fans out there!!! Go Cards

This is some of the best news I've heard all year. I've been trying to watch MLB.tv on the PS3 using PlayOn, but have all kinds of problems with it, (in part due to wireless limitations and my relatively weak laptop CPU) and its functionality is very limited.

Can't wait to check this out tonight (hopefully the MLB.tv servers aren't overloaded -- it's been a rough start to the season, as it is every season).

If only NFL would do this. I could say goodbye to DirecTV. As it is, I need my Sunday Ticket/Red Zone Channel.

@99ish for the whole year, it sure is tempting. The main thing for me is stream quality. I don't want to pay for choppy playback. Be nice if we could get a sample or day pass. Looks like it's full year only.

And yeah, I wish the NFL would get going as I hate directv.

It's not that I hate DirecTV. I think their product is actually quite good. They're just terribly overpriced for what little I use it -- mostly the kids networks, ESPN, WGN (finally going HD), and NFL Sunday Ticket. Almost all TV shows and movies, I watch on disc.

Added the PlayStation.Blog post (with demonstration video) to the first post.

Looks like it shares UI elements (and probably underlying technology) with the Life with PlayStation app.

For anyone who may be an MLB.tv subscriber, how do they determine what is out-of-market?

If the Twins were available in Des Moines, which they are not, I would be all over this. Of course, MLB views Des Moines as a local market for the Twins, Brewers, Cubs, White Sox, Cardinals, and Royals, so blackouts apply to all of the above unless televised on Fox Sports or WGN. Ah well, the radio it is.

Bah! Kind of hard to justify when you can't even watch your favourite team play on it live. I know I could just switch back to cable and watch them, but it wouldn't be the same experience. If only the PS3 supported VPN so I could spoof my IP.

Sony needs to integrate a real app store to PSN, there's a few apps already and having an app store would facilitate finding the apps you want. Anyways, they need to try to get this app on PSP as well, I would use something like this (not necessarily MLB.TV) on PSP while I'm on vacation but doubt I'd use it on PS3.

WOW, that sucks. Here in Canada with the NHL, it's the other way around. I'm in Quebec and on Sportsnet, I can't watch Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver games, all blacked out! But it's only on this channel though.
