Default With all these great blu ray deals do you feel like you need to buy them?

It seems lately there have been some great blu ray deals I have bought because I was afraid the prices would go back up. A few weeks ago I bought the Mission Impossible 5 movie collection blu ray for 19.99 at Best Buy. On Amazon I bought the 4k 5 movie collection of the Bourne series for 43 and some change (great price for 4k). Also just bought on Amazon The Clint Eastwood 7 movie collection blu ray for 19.99 and Steven Spielberg’s 8 movie collection for 23.49. Feel like if I didn’t act now on these discounted prices then who knows when they would be this low again. Is anyone else doing the same?

Stay away from that 4K Bourne set. The 2K masters are the same old DVD era masters used for the BDs.

I had this problem when I first got into DVD and now I have over 1500 DVDs and Blus and I've hardly watched 1/4 of them.

Now I've learned to focus only on what I truly want, and let things go even if they're a good price.

I try to do the same. It's hard sometimes. Right now I'm trying to watch every title I own at least once.

Ah, that's the danger, buy a disc (or more likely a set) because it's a bargain price & just too good to pass up...& there it sits on the shelf until one day you get rid of it. I've done it more than a few times (well I'm only human), I'm trying not to this year...we'll see.

Exactly the same for me. I am still tempted by sales, but I will only bite if I absolutely plan on watching it right away. I've bought things on sale for what I thought at the time was a can't miss price, only for time to pass without me watching it and it dropping even lower during another sale. Things will always go lower until they hit absolute bottom and a newer technology gets released. If I skip a current sale I know another will come around eventually and at likely a lower price. Unless it's something limited or that can go out of print, it's ok to wait until you're ready.

Nope. All my cash is going to the sales being put on by smaller labels and rounding up the European releases of things that I've been putting off for far too long (Hammer!). Major studio domestic releases of any sort are my lowest priority for this year, no matter how good the deal.

No. I think I've seen roughly 100 copies of every Mission Impossible for $1-2 each at thrift or pawn shops.

Not particularly.

I have a very specific list of titles that I’m interested in, and I’m pretty good about not buying films that aren’t on my list (although I do add films to my wishlist fairly often).

I’m also generally really good about finding them for low prices / waiting for sales and price reductions. I haven’t spent more than $13 on a single blu-ray since La La Land last May.

Nope. I only buy movies that are on my wishlist and even that is pretty small. I don't go buying things I don't want just because they're on sale.

Sure, sometimes. The 'Deals' bar at the top of every page definitely sucks me in from time to time.

Right now it's hawking two Hammer films from Mill Creek for $8.11. Do I really want - let alone need - two Hammer films from Mill Creek? Nope.

But it's still kinda tempting.

i try hard to resist "just cuz it's cheap" purchases. i told myself that i would just upgrade movies i really like on blu and only buy new titles that i definitely want. i don't let things pile up unwatched either. i usually will watch within a week of purchase unless it'a a multi movie set. i bought all kinds of stuff on DVD because it was cheap or looked kinda good. can't do that again and don't have the room to just buy whatever (wife doesn't get the buying tons of movie thing either)

Probably more often than I'd care to admit.

I did recently partake in the Sentai Filmworks sale--there was maybe one movie I legitimately knew of and wanted to get, but I wound up blind-buying a fistfull of films and a couple of whole shows. I've done the same with Criterion, Arrow, Scream Factory, Kino Lorber, and WAC sales too.

If it's a random deal I see popping up on Amazon or the deals bar, then it all depends. If it's a title I don't have but kinda want, then sure. Otherwise, I'll ignore it.

Yeah, vendor sales can definitely be quicksand too. You add a couple marginal titles to hit the free shipping minimum and then you think 'well, I'm in this deep, what's another eight bucks for this and twelve bucks for that' and pretty soon...

Not usually, but the Spielberg set for $23.49 and the Adventures of Tintin 3D blu-ray for $9.99 both got me this week.
