Default Curved Screen

I was wondering, out of curiosity are there such things as curved screens for home use? Obviously you see them in your local multi-plex but was not sure if they are used at home. Does any one here own a curved screen, if so what size is it?

In short, yes. There is a huge selection for the home too. You can find them from more budget conscious manufacturers like Elite all the way up to Stewart and pricier manufacturers even yet. The main purpose of a curved screen in the home is to help compensate from the slight "pincushion" distortion you get from using an anamorphic lens to achieve a Cinemascope aspect ratio of 2.35:1. The shorter the throw the more pronounced the pin cushion effect on the bottom and top edges of the screen. So the curved screen compensates for that. The alternative when using a flat screen is to overscan or shoot a little bit of the image on to the black masking.

Here are a few to check out:

Elite Screens Lunette

SMX Screens

Prismasonic Screens

Stewart Film Screens Cinecurve

Screen Excellence Vistacurve Screen

They pretty much get pricier as you go down the list above. Personally, I would love to buy the SMX but my budget may put me in to the Lunette or the Prismasonic in time. I like the idea of having acoustically transparent screen material as well and then having your speakers behind the screen. Hope this helps.
