Hey all, this is my first post so please be nice.
I'm totally sold on BluRay and have decided to list my favorite 50 movies of all time and buy them one by one on what I figure will be the last physical format for video, this is quite a watershed as I never bought DVD's (or VHS for that matter). My problem though is that there's quite a number of titles that are either region locked (I reside in region 2) or show no sign of being released at all. Can anyone here have a look at the titles below coloured in RED and BLUE and let me know if think I'm wasting my time waiting for their release? Many thanks: AVAILABLE PURCHASED IMPORT ONLY STILL NOT ON BD Kill Bill – Quentin Tarrentino Death Proof – Quentin Tarrentino Saving Private Ryan – Steven Spielberg There Will Be Blood - Paul Thomas Anderson 12 Monkeys – Terry Gilliam Evil Dead II – Sam Raimi Memento – Christopher Nolan (Waiting for the re-issue) Die Hard - John McTiernan Predator - John McTiernan Collateral – Michael Mann Slumdog Millionaire – Danny Boyle American Beauty – Sam Mendes Back to the Future – Robert Zemeckis Aliens – James Cameron Akira - Katsuhiro Τtomo Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Michel Gondry Pulp Fiction – Quentin Tarrentino Dune - David Lynch Spider-Man 2 – Sam Raimi (Don't want the box set) Mad Max – George Miller (Region Locked) The Princess Bride - Rob Reiner (Region Locked) Dawn of the Dead (Remake) – Zack Snyder Groundhog Day – Harold Ramis Gattaca – Andrew Niccol South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut – Trey Parker Schindlers List – Steven Spielberg Raiders of the Lost Ark – Steven Spielberg Punch-Drunk Love - Paul Thomas Anderson Monty Python and the Holy Grail – Terry Gilliam/Terry Jones Dancer in the Dark – Lars Von Trier Dogville – Lars Von Trier Finding Nemo – Andrew Stanton Before Sunrise/Before Sunset – Richard Linklater High Fidelity – Stephen Frears Airplane! - David Zucker Star Wars (New Hope/Empire) - George Lucas (now has a release date) Annie Hall – Woody Allen The Bourne Identity – Doug Liman Stranger Than Fiction – Marc Forster National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation – Jeremiah S. I'd imagine all the titles in blue will be out on blu at some point apart from Spider-Man 2. I'd get the Spidey set while it's cheap or you're going to have to wait a while. Finding Nemo should be out after The Incredibles so some time this year.

I know what you are saying about Spiderman Box set, I just can't bring myself to pay good money for the third installment! especially when I know that you can buy them separately in Region 1 |

I'd say most if not all of the titles you've listed in red or blue will be out some day on Blu-ray in the UK.
Finding Nemo is very likely to get a release late this year. Punch-Drunk Love was once getting a release in the UK but for some reason got cancelled by Sony, which is who its distributed by. As chip75 said, you may aswell get the Spider-Man box set if you really want Spider-Man 2, and then just sell the others if you want to. Raiders of the Lost Ark along with the rest of the Indy trilogy will definitely be out some day, I would have said this year but I am not sure if George Lucas would release that aswell as the Star Wars Saga in the same year. South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut is distributed by Warner in the UK, and not Paramount like in the US where its out now. But I'd imagine Warner will eventually get to releasing it aswell. Pulp Fiction is very likely to get a release one day, due to its popularity if nothing else. As for the rest of your listed titles, they'll also get here.. eventually. It can sometimes be a pain waiting though, theirs loads of catalog releases I would pre-order straight away if they got a UK release, and alot of them are already out in the US but I refuse to import, even if they're region-free. |

I would also agree with Chip, though. Most of the ones that are not released yet, most likely will be, some of them are already announced for release in 2011.

It's becoming a real bore and I suppose I'm getting a little frustrated at the slowness of the release schedule for Blu Ray in general (I'm just impatient) So, I suppose the purpose of my thread is to gain an insight into the forums collective opinion on release schedules. For instance I had given up on many of the titles listed in blue but I'm heartened to hear already that chip75 thinks they are likely to be released at least some time in the future! |

It's not the worst film ever made, it ties up the trilogy and it has got a disc of extras. £8 each still isn't bad even if you throw Spidey 3 in the bin. Which would be a shame. |

At the very least Spiderman 3 is a good demo disc for Blu-ray... the sand looks amazing, you can literally see individual grains of sand.... and... err.... Kirsten Dunst looks HOT in her short skirt and tights at the end.... or something

Spiderman box set is £13 at some places. I know at CEX you could get £5 each for the other two...

Thanks for the replys everyone.
It's good to hear that you reckon the outstanding titles will at some point see the light of day in Hi-Def, I just have to learn to be patient! I suppose the reason for my frustration on these is that I know in the back of my mind that Digital Download technology is coming down the road and at the rate some of these titles are making it to market I'm worried the distributors won't bother with a physical release if DD is established by then. With regards Spiderman, there seems to be a general consensus that the cheap box set is the way to go. I think I'll buy it and give the 3rd film as a present to someone I don't like. |

I'm not 100% confident that all my favourite films will make it to the UK on Blu as they never even got a dvd release however titles such as Inferno give off some morsel of hope.
This year already sees 6 of my all time favourites on the calender: Thin Red Line, Platoon, Manhunter, Tenebrae, Dont Look Now and Once Upon A Time In America. With Lion King also a cert for October; and the Star Wars boxset and obscure gems such as Ashes And Diamonds announced I'm more thna happy waiting for the rest. Lets face it they only stagger the releases as the majority of us couldn't afford buying all the titles at once. |

Thought I'd revisit this post, as it's now 1 year old, and see whats changed. At the time of posting I was quite frustrated by the slowness of studios to re-issue good movies to blu ray, but I think the significant changes to this list, in terms of the re-ordering, show that things aren't as bad as they seemed back in '11.
*caveat - some films previously in 'Import only' I went ahead and bought as they were region free. Evil Dead & Momento have been re-issued but these versions are region locked to U.S. and I'll wait for a UK release. AVAILABLE IMPORT ONLY STILL NOT ON BLU RAY PURCHASED There Will Be Blood - Paul Thomas Anderson Akira - Katsuhiro Τtomo Monty Python and the Holy Grail Terry Gilliam/Terry Jones Star Wars (New Hope/Empire) - George Lucas Spider-Man 2 Sam Raimi (Individual release coming soon) Mad Max George Miller (Region Locked) Evil Dead II Sam Raimi (re-issue_Region Locked) Memento Christopher Nolan (re-issue_Region Locked) Schindlers List Steven Spielberg Raiders of the Lost Ark Steven Spielberg Punch-Drunk Love - Paul Thomas Anderson Dancer in the Dark Lars Von Trier Dogville Lars Von Trier Finding Nemo Andrew Stanton Before Sunrise/Before Sunset Richard Linklater High Fidelity Stephen Frears The Bourne Identity Doug Liman Stranger Than Fiction Marc Forster National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation Jeremiah S.
