Currently I have this, a sony dav-hdx275 and I'm considering upgrading but I don't have a lot of money (just graduated college). I'm looking to spend around 800. I'm considering getting something along the lines of these two options
1. Onkyo HT-S9300THX 7.1 HTiB 2. Onkyo TX-SR309 5.1 Receiver, Polk Audio TSi300, Polk Audio TSi200, Polk Audio CS10 Center and then getting a sub later on. anyone have any advice or opinions? are any of these two options going to be a significant upgrade to what I have now or should I just save my money? Thanks for any help, I have no idea what I'm doing. ![]() Last edited by Uncharted; 06-23-2011 at 02:01 AM. |

Money wise ????? start slowly building your system For the time being you can start with a better receiver than the ones mentioned , and then getting your mains L/C/R then sub and surrounds . Look at the good side you can buy a better receiver and for now you can still use the speakers that you have till you upgrade .
Regarding the speakers and you mentioned Polk , for the sake of money you are better off by getting the Monitor line they are the same speakers with a new design in the cabinet but cheaper truth Newegg . But there`s always a but ![]() ![]() |

Here are a couple of 3D ready receivers with video processing (just in case your TV handles 3D or you decide to upgrade to that later on:
Denon AVR-2311CI 7.2 Channel A/V Home Theater Multi-Source/Multi-Zone Receiver with HDMI 1.4a Supporting 1080p and 3D (Black) - $569.00 and Onkyo HT-RC260 7.2-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black) - $339.00 Also, please listen to the speakers you intend to purchase before buying them online. I own 7.2 worth of Definitive Technology speakers but there are other good brands out there. I think anyone you talk to here on this forum will give you the same advice. |

I would also recommend auditioning the speakers, but if you decide on polks, I'd suggest looking at the monitor 70s or 60s over the TSi300s since you're on a budget. Better speakers for less $ just because they are older models.
Edit - I should have read the responses more thoroughly, Almadacr already said that ![]() Last edited by igotcabada; 06-23-2011 at 03:20 PM. |

From Amazon:
Onkyo 608 price is more or less like the new model 309 you have in mind, but much better. + Klipsch HD 300 or HD 500 5.1 speaker system will fit your budget of $800. Future upgrade? Keep the sub, the speakers can be used for Dolby-Z height speakers and Audessy DSX front-wide speakers, and/or back-surround speakers. Center speaker can continue to match well with the upgrade speakers if you go with same Klipsch brand, or as 6.1 solo back surround speaker or as a sound test speaker. You did not mention if you have a blu-ray player. With the 3D-ready 608, cheapest 3D blu-ray player is arournd $100-$120. There is another route you can go for: Onkyo older non-3D receivers 607 or 707 (then you have pre-out) + single HDMI output 3D blu-ray player + monoprice.com HDMI 1.4 splitter; or double HDMI output 3D blu-ray player - lowest price model is Samsung BD-D6700 - BHphotovideo.com ~$220+ Good luck. |

With your budget, I would highly suggest that you buy yourself a nice receiver like the
Onkyo RC-180 $349 And then just get a pair of towers and spend as much as you can on them. http://www.musicdirect.com/p-47408-w...d-pr-demo.aspx http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....al-Chorus-725- http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....7-v6-Black-fin http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....-studio-60-v2- |
