So, with the release of The Lion King this october, I got to thinking about other disney releases that we will see soon.
Specifically of course is Aladdin, which is supposedly due to be released next fall (2012). Any news on Aladdin or any other disney blu-rays that don't have a specific thread. Feel free to discuss here. According to what I have read fantasia replaced it and Aladdin is due out next year, aladdin's 20th anniversary. |

I liked the 1st and the 3rd the best, and according to rumors it may already be finished. So they may be putting all 3 in a set just like lion king. |

I'd also love to see Pocahontas, The Sword in the Stone, and The Brave Little Toaster on blu ray. The last one would be for pure nostalgia.

I've mentioned in similar threads that I'd love to see Aladdin released on Blu; its one of my fave Disney films period, and easily in my Top 50 overall. As for the boxset, that would be awesome, but it'd be even better if they got Williams to redub the Genie for "The Return of Jafar".

I went to an advanced showing of this when it first came out, and I've loved it ever since. The only moment that creeps me out is the "Hellfire" sequence with Frollo and the fireplace. The rest of it is easily 10/10; too bad the sequel mostly sucked (except for JLH's singing in it). |

The reason why Aladdin was taken out of the line was because the Platinum Edition DVD of Aladdin sold two million copies in one year, Disney found that to be really low because the Platinum Edition DVD of Snow White sold two million copies in one week. Fantasia was supposed to replace Aladdin as a Diamond Edition, but they took it out of the Diamond Blu-Ray line. Disney did a terrific job with the Alice In Wonderland 60th Anniversary Blu-Ray, it showed that a Disney movie on Blu-Ray doesn't need to be a Diamond Edition. |

For those who aren't familar with Disney's release patterns, the Diamond Edition Blu-ray releases are said to be following the same schedule as the Platinum Edition DVD releases. If this is true, the time table should be as follows:
2009: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs 2010: Beauty and the Beast 2011: Bambi & The Lion King (Fall) 2012: Lady and the Tramp (Spring) & Cinderella (Fall) 2013: The Little Mermaid & Peter Pan (not sure what order) 2014: The Jungle Book & 101 Dalmatians (not sure what order) 2015: Sleeping Beauty & Pinocchio (not sure what order) Now, this should be taken with a grain of salt as Disney could always switch things up, have a delay, or even insert additional titles into the Diamond line. The last two Platinum titles, Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio, are already on Blu-ray, but will probably still be re-released as Diamond Editions. Not sure how they could get any better than the previous Blu-ray release, but maybe they'll add something extra (3D?). As for the non-Diamond titles, it's anyone's guess as to when Disney decides to put them on Blu-ray. I really hope the rumor about Aladdin in 2012 is true, and I'd love to see Hercules and Tarzan on Blu-ray, too. Any of the 90's films would look spectacular in high definition! ![]() I don't think they'll even attempt to improve them come the Diamond Editions, as it's just cheaper not to and everything possible to release that accomodates those films has already been released. ![]() Quote:

I agree aladdin should be a platinum title, but does the quality become affected if it isn't one? I always thought the platinum was just a title given to certain movies that sold well. Does it change the pq and what not if it isn't a diamond edition?

Nope, it shouldn't affect the quality at all. Many people rave about the quality of the recent Alice in Wonderland release on Blu-ray, and that wasn't a Diamond Edition. Disney loves special titles and anniversaries - it's just another way to convince shoppers that this is the release they "have to have."
