Default Anyone here play guitar??

Just curious if anyone here has had an opportunity to try out one of these?

It's a Fender Squire and it's called a "Vintage Modified HSS Strat." It's a single coil, single coil, humbucker configuration with some kind of Seymor Duncan pickups.

I was wondering if anyone here who plays might own one or have had a chance to try one out. I'm wanting a Strat with a nice humbucker in the bridge and I do NOT want to pay a ton of cash. This guitar looks pretty sweet in gun metal grey! I'm a little bummed though because I cannot find anywhere in my area that has one in stock for me to try out. Has anyone here been able to get their hands on one and if so, what are your impressions?

Check my gallerie and you will find one in red with double HDD The thing with Squier is where is it made ??? the models from Japan are better then the mexican ones , when using the wammy bar in iron maiden/slayer style it gets easily out of tune , but also it happens with a no american Fender strat . and they have a 300$ difference between them . You will be ok if you don`t abuse the wammy , but still a B.C. Ritch will gets easily out of tune and it cost`s the double from the Squier

Actually these are made in India. The body is made from Indian Cedar. The neck is maple with a rosewood figerboard. The reviews I've read online have been widely positive. I'm just still a little reluctant to buy a guitar I've never tried out. The pickups I found out are "Duncan Design" not true Seymor Duncans. Basically Duncan Designs are made from SD's Korean factory. I do not typically use the whammy bar unless I'm just covering something that calls for it (Van Halen, Maiden, etc). However I don't prefer it when playing my own stuff at all.

I just like the classic look of a Strat. I hate BC Rich guitars. They always look cheap and their designs are fugly. If I were to use an analogy, I'd say a classic Strat or Les Paul looks like a Victoria's Secret model. BC Rich guitars look like the hooker you see on the Las Vegas strip.

One thing is for sure you should try it out , it is not one of the guitars that i would take to play all night but still a ok guitar . Normally i have mine on a drop D so less use of wammy but where i see most of the difference is in the G string . BTW nice analogy

I have a Fender Starcaster acoustic in my room, and occasionally it's in a higher octave than other guitars. Still sounds great though. I just changed my strings a couple months ago, and I regularly leave it in either standard or drop D tuning. I'm afraid to try out New Standard Tuning (CGDAED) on my acoustic because the strings might break, though I really want to try it out.

I would not advised that tunning on a acoustic guitar not only will you break strings , but you will be putting to much stress on the neck , on a electric go nuts

I guess if you can't find the same to try, try at least another Squire of the same series, get a feel and if using the same wood, a general idea of the vibe of it. Initial setup might not be up to par unless your online dealer includes it. But sometimes it happens that a cheaper guitar can sound great, the first Mexicans were great, Own an original Tex-Mex with CS P/Us (Kent Armstrong SRVs, lucky enough to know a guy, who kno.. you get the picture, so Directly from Slovakia to SRV's known specs) and I wouldn't trade that guitar for almost any other strat (Well reasonable prices obviously) If you can't find a comparable model and are afraid, go higher value, US starts don't really lose value.

Edit : If you are buying online and think of getting a hard case, do it then, strats are built like tanks but wonder how well a box can protect, that's what I did for my second one, great price and was setup to perfection (as guaranteed)

Thanks for the advice and I agree 100% with the part in bold. The very first electric guitar I bought on my own was a 1997 Les Paul Standard Premium Plus! That thing was freaking beatiful! It was cherry sunburst, AAA flame top, rosewood neck, trapezoid inlay, nickel hardware, etc. I paid a high price for it too. The problem was, I never wanted to play the darn thing for fear of getting it scratched, scraped, dented, etc. It basically became a 2500.00 wall decoration. I guess it's like the guy who buys a Ferrari and never takes it out of the garage. I ended up selling it because guitars are meant to be played. I just didn't have the heart to do it. Now I just want an inexpensive "work horse" type of guitar. Something I don't care as much if I gets wear and tear, but of course I want it to sound good. The Fender I asked about is about 350.00. I think this would serve as a nice happy medium between being a good guitar and reasonably priced.
