Default Blu-ray advertising in Australian cinemas.

The other day I went to my local cinema (the largest and busiest on the northside of Brisbane, where I live)and they played an ad from Sony promoting Blu-ray. The cinema was packed.

It's good to see some advertising over here. It's the first I've seen. Hopefully it will have some impact. Just thought I'd share.

Hi frenchglen,

Thanks for replying. Yeah it was Birch Carroll & Coyle. It was quite a "flashy" ad, it showed off everything nicely. People seemed very impressed. So, all good.

did anyone see the cool blu ray ad sony ran during the afl grand final yesterday (29th sept) i wish i recorded it, it showed a stand alone sony bd player and a ps3 aswell and advertised blu ray as being the next generation of music movies and gaming (then cheekily added that the gaming funtionality of blu ray is only avaliable on the ps3 and not the standalone)

Hi VenomXR8,

Yeah. Was an awesome ad. Great game too. I recorded the game on my Foxtel IQ, so I have the ad recorded as well. Was really good to see some strong advertising from Sony alerting the public to Blu-ray.

thats the beauty of living in Australia, there is no "war" the blu ray vs hd dvd sales ratio is something like 90/10 in favour of blu ray, could even be more, its not a war here, its a massacre

Hi Zyclone, frenchglen and others,

Yes Zyclone I agree... Yay Aussies. And frenchglen I also agree with you this whole "war" is very annoying. It's pointless and it has slowed down everything. Hopefully something good will happen soon.

Hi VenomXR8,

You're right, it is a massacre. It's hard to find HD-DVD here and when you do there is always more Blu-ray available. I'd definitely say Blu-ray is kicking arse down under.

Going by my observations, the same is happening in New Zealand.
Blu-ray are the only HD discs that I can find in retail shops, although there is a small selection of both online.

Only Sony and Warner are releasing Blu-ray here, but Australia has full studio support. Being in the same geographical area, it seems a little odd, and annoying, for us Kiwis.

Hi PS3 Kiwi,

Really... only Sony and Warner Bros are releasing in NZ!? That's strange. Can't understand that. As you said it's the same region as us Aussies. Hopefully for your sake and your fellow New Zealanders that will change soon. 'Til then you can always buy from over here I guess or other countries. Still though, very strange.
