Default Setting Contrast for Blu-Ray

I've been a BD user since 2010 (since 2011 with my upgraded display), but anyway I've noticed lately that colour and/or contrast seems too high or something. It's hard to describe but I've noticed modern films like Gravity, No Country for Old Men, The Last Stand etc seem kinda soft in terms of detail and I see white bloom in the picture deepening on the scene which overall leads to a disappointing image especially when I know its suppose to look good based off how the films were shot, and the objective good technical reviews they get.

Anyway I've used the THX calibrator before off the Terminator 2 Skynet edition, but I don't have access to it now and I cannot afford a standalone calibration disc nor do I want one. Can anyone recommend some selected, hand picked scenes from the movies on my Blu-Ray collection where I can re-configure my contrast setting? I think that would help me nicely.

Thank you in advance..
