United Kingdom Disney's Tangled - 23rd May 2011

Now that the artwork for the two Blu-ray editions have just been released, I thought I ought to start up a thread for them and also Rapunzel deserves her own thread.

2D Double Play: Blu-ray + DVD Edtion

3D Super Play: Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray 2D + Digital Copy Edition

I loved Tangled so much that's it's now my favourite film and can't wait until I can see it in HD.

Whilst I want to future proof my collection by getting the 3D version, because it looks like it won't come with a slip I'll just go with the 2D Double Play release and once I have a 3D set-up then I'll get the 3D version.

Double play for me too. Hopefully the good box office returns for this will convince John Lasseter to rethink his recent comments about no more Princess/Fairy tale movies for a while.

I'm 99.9% sure the 3D SP will have a slip. I'd wait for the art on Play, HMV, etc. before I make up my mind.

I'd like to believe you, but with Alice in Wonderland not coming with a slip and the artwork showing that, then I can't see Tangled being any different.

I think Tangled is much better, because it reflects the tone of the film and it's also really about 2 characters, not one as the original title would have implied.

From Wikipedia.

Quote:
When first put into production, the film was promoted as having the title Rapunzel Unbraided, which was then changed to Rapunzel.

Disney's previous animated feature The Princess and the Frog in 2009, while being highly critically acclaimed and taking in nearly $270 million worldwide, was not as successful as Disney had hoped. Disney expressed the belief that the film's emphasis on princesses may have deterred young boys from seeing the film. In order to market the film to both boys and girls, Disney changed the film's name from Rapunzel to Tangled, while also emphasizing Flynn Rider, the film's prominent male character. Disney was criticized for altering the classic title as a marketing strategy. Floyd Norman, a former Disney and Pixar animator and story artist, said, "The idea of changing the title of a classic like Rapunzel to Tangled is beyond stupid. I'm convinced they'll gain nothing from this except the public seeing Disney as desperately trying to find an audience." Justin Chang of Variety compared it to changing to the title of The Little Mermaid to Beached.

On November 24, 2010, the day of the film's release, directors Nathan Greno and Byron Howard disputed reports that the title change was a marketing decision. They said they changed the title from Rapunzel to Tangled because Rapunzel is not the only main character in the film. They went on to say that you can't call Toy Story "Buzz Lightyear," and they really needed a title that represented what the film is, and that it’s a duo, and it stars Rapunzel and Flynn Rider.
I prefer the Tangled title as well Rapunzel Unbraided would have been an awful title and sound like an Unplugged CD.

I prefer the title 'Tangled'. On topic, lovely film. Saw it for free as well . Chuffed. Nice 3D, as well.

Will get the 3D version if it has a slipcover, if not, the Double Play.

DoublePlay for me as-well The name Tangled payed of big time for Disney in terms of box office, so it was a pat on the back for them. The next princess film is Pixar's Brave and Princess Mérida is expected to join the Disney Princess franchise.

2D here as well. Doubt I'll pre-order though. I don't mind paying an extra quid or two instore at HMV if it means I get the choice of picking the slipcover out with it. I don't fancy pre-ordering for it to arrive with slightly bent corners etc.

I'm going to wait for HMV to put a pre-order up. They always get me stuff friday before release, Amazon is always a few days after release, and HMV is way better packaging too for the slipcase.

I am very glad I got mine from the States as I hate those big Double Play banners, plus as I got the 3D version it came with a beautiful Lenticular slip.

However I must say the Extras are absolutely Woeful, the worst I have personally seen on any Disney release, I hope this doesn't become a trend.

Even though it's my favourite film now and I'm after the 3D version, I think I can live without a magnectic photo frame.
