I don't get it...EVERY review I've read so far of the BD Halloween raves about the picture and, for the most part, the audio. Why then does Bracke give it such an incredibly low rating? Is he watching the same BD as everyone else?
Personally, I like the new transfer better. It looks much more realistic and creepy. It looks like if you were walking down the street at night. The THX version is way to blue. Glad they used the less blue version for... Blu-Ray! AHA!!! I made a funny... I appologize for that outburst everyone, I am sorry.
My dreams have come true. This is the BEST I’ve ever seen Halloween in my home. What I see here is the clean and pristine image quality of the 25th Anniversary Edition with the colour timing very close to the previous DVDs. The result is nothing short of spectacular. You will be amazed at the opening titles – the black level is deep and noise free, titles are defined sharply against the background without any artificial enhancement. As the film progresses to the steady cam view of Michael’s murder of his sister, you will notice ample depth to the image with outside views of the house, and details in the interiors through the window. It’s quite amazing.

Maybe he should create another category when it comes to "Directors Intent". I've noticed far to many of his reviews have sliced PQ scores that should be in the 4 1/2s to 5's because of 'Directors Intent' argument. I've seen even more 4 1/2's that should have been 5's because of this nitpicking guesswork crap. Picture Quality should have absolutely NOTHING to do with how close it matches to a directors vision. It either looks good, or it does not. It's that simple.
If we want to play that game, then Dracula should have been a 5 star rating as it's director approved.
I one of the rare Halloween fan who don't like the overly blueist THX Version. The BD still have blue, but it's very light.
I saw the HD version a while ago on a HD channel and it's looked very good, it was the same transfert as the BD and i liked the look.
Since almost no version has the same blue tint, even the Approuved Laserdisc is not as blue as the Approved DVD, seems to me that someone doesn't know what he wants...

He hated the fact that they totally altered the colo palette from Carpenter & Cundey's (photography director) intent. They change dthe stylistic interpreatation of the movie.

Maybe it isn't a big deal to you, but they really shouldn't have done it that way. I'm not sure I agree with him on 1.5 * for PQ, but how can you put out a blu-ray version that the people who created the movie blatantly disagree with?
Listen I've bought BDs that Bracke didn't like and will do so again... Bram Stoker's Dracula comes to mind. Read his stuff and make your own decision. But why deny the guy his point of view, especially when it is totally valid?
