Hi all
![]() In this thread https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=230395 you guys were very helpful & I ultimately decided (The best bang for buck) to put the 1TB in the PS3 instead of PS4. My model is a Sony PS3 320GB Free Space - 26GB/298GB I will have a bit of help but still have a few questions. ![]() My father will be bringing over a 500GB USB Drive to back-up all the data from the system. He says its much faster then Ethernet cable. Is it really that simple to back-up & restore using a USB Drive? Once the 1TB is fitted to PS3 is there any other thing that needs to be done before restoring the data from the USB Drive? I appreciate all your help & suggestions. I guess I have a fear of messin this up beyond repair or something. I am excited to finally get back games I've deleted off of PSN & hopefully still have room left on the drive. Oh.. if you know of any handy YouTube videos that you trust explain the HDD swap that would be awesome too. Thanks! |

![]() They have a good illustration of the HDD 320GB. I noticed that link just tells you to buy whatever HDD drive as long as its 2.5" ![]() |

So right now am backing up 236GB to the 827GB available.
![]() I guess I can deal with 591GB ![]() When I have time I'll post an accurate YouTube 100% A-Z step-by-step I found that is 27 minutes. [Show spoiler] The one thing not mentioned in that awesome video is that your flash drive must also be formatted Fat32 not just the USB external drive. This is very important. My flash drive was not formatted Fat32 so when the "select + start" prompt came up, it did not detect the latest firmware I put on it. Thank goodness I didn't have to start from scratch. The back-up of my 236GB took 7 hours 45 minutes. ![]() The Sony site linked above helps you create the proper file for the firmware to be put on Flash. Other then that it helps with the physical transfer. What it doesn't provide is a list of HDD that work or even the specs of the drive. For those upgrading with no need to back-up, it is very easy & fast. ![]() In my case, not so much. ![]() |

Keep in mind. Some game saves and a lot of DLC cannot be restored from a backup. Don't be surprised when you have to redownload a bunch of stuff from PS Store and some of your games have no save files for them. A prompt will appear after your restore that says "not all data was able to be restored." That has nothing to do with the important operating data.

Cool thanks Petra! ![]() Ok this will be interesting when it's done then. Of the 236GB space used up, 5 are PSN games. ![]() |

I dunno for how long (passed out) but the restore has been on 82% for awhile now. Both the HDD light on the USB & HDD light on PS3 are solid meaning something should be going on.
How long would you wait at 82 before saying the "hell with this?" ![]() |
