Looking for an inexpensive but reliable blu ray player as a christmas present for a friend. Any suggestions would be great.

Christmas is still 3 months away! Personally, I wouldn't buy any type of electronics this early, in case if there's a defect, and have to return it within the retailer's return policy window period.

Default Price Range?

I just purchased the Panasonic dmp310 for 229.99$ This may be a bit high for a gift though. Either way Im quite happy with it so far.

I also have one of Panasonic's first generation Blu-ray Players, and it's been working without a hitch ever since. I highly recommend Panasonic, but the original poster should be able to get one a lot cheaper than $229.00.

Not sure if you have either, but I know that Costco and Sam's Club have pretty good Black Friday sales. I jumped into the BD arena last BF and snagged a pretty nice entry level BD player. The nice thing is with Costco, they include the HDMI cables with most of their equipment.
