I bought a 40 GB PS3 years ago and at various times it tells me I'm between 5-10 away from no free space. Erasing BD Data Utility does some work but not a lot. Rentals are a killer as are downloads.
Anyway I digress. I realized I can hook up my old WD Hard Drive to the thing. I renamed some files 'Music', 'Photo' 'Video', and 'PS3'. I got the earlier ones working but how I transfer currently saved, but not often used Game Data or have the right file extensions to save some game data going forward? I don't quite understand the bit about right file extensions, but I don't believe you can move game data. I think your best bet there is to just delete the game data you don't use, and reinstall (or in the case of DLC, re-download) again later when you want to play the game. Otherwise, there's really nothing else to do but get a new hard drive. They're not terribly expensive, and extremely easy to swap out.

Well when I first plugged it in, it wouldn't find any of my stuff. I then found a post online that said I needed the file names to match up to those in the PS3 menu. That worked.
Ok, so I guess I can't save much more game data, but rather than downloading movies to the console, I will go to the hard drive. Just downloaded the Terra Nova pilot off PSN. Free for the HD version which was awesome, but 4 GB for an 86 minute show. Yikes |
