I have to buy a new router/modem for my computer as both have decided they don't want to work anymore. Does the PS3 (or its users) have a preference for the type of router?
Last router was a Netgear WGR614... I'm running Windows 7. Last edited by slaughinghouse; 09-28-2011 at 07:06 PM. |

I use a Linksys WRT54GS and my Son uses a Linksys E1200. Both work fine wired and wireless. The E1200 was made after Cisco bought out Linksys. It is more user friendly. Last edited by SDG; 09-28-2011 at 07:18 PM. |

Your best bet is to use wired ethernet on a NAT type 2 connection. NAT type 1 would be ideal, but that requires directly connecting your PS3 to your modem, and that is something I personally am not comfortable with and would not recommend.
PS3 does not support 802.11n, so there's no need to bother with a router that supports that, unless you also plan to use other devices with it, such as your laptop or smartphone (which I suspect is the case if you are buying a router in the first place). |
