Talking AMC's "The Killing"

A Washington state based mystery revolving around the death of a girl? My first thoughts,Twin Peaks. I enjoy shows based in my home state, but they will film this is Vancouver like always.......

Quote:
Cambell ("Once and Again," "The 4400") is set to join the cast of the police drama, playing the role of "Richmond."

"The Killing" is a Seattle-based mystery following the police investigation of the murder of a young girl, tying together three interlocking stories as investigators chase a variety of leads.

"The Killing" is AMC's only pilot in contention for a series order now that zombie drama "The Walking Dead" has been picked up. The other key "Killing" lead role of "Sarah" has not yet been cast.

Mikkel Bondesen and Veena Sud are executive producers on the Fox TV Studios project, which starts shooting next month in Vancouver.

Cambell is repped by CAA and Kritzer Levine Wilkins Griffin Entertainment.

I think the cast is shaping up pretty nicely.

Quote:
The network has inked four more series regular roles in the drama pilot, which centers around the police investigation of a girl's murder.

Michelle Forbes ("True Blood") and Brent Sexton ("W," "In the Valley of Elah") have been cast as Mitch and Stanley, respectively, the victim's parents. Forbes is repped by Domain and The Hofflund Company; Sexton is repped by Greene & Associates.

Eric Ladin ("Generation Kill") has been cast as Jamie, the campaign manger to a mayoral candidate (Billy Campbell) and is repped by Main Title and Innovative.

Jamie Anne Allman ("The Notebook" will play Mitch's younger sister and is repped by Greene & Associates. Also, Joel Kinnaman will play Holder, an ex-narc cop, and is repped by UTA and Magnolia.

Patty Jenkins ("Monster") will direct the pilot, which is executive produced by Veena Sud and Mikkel Bondesen.

With zombie drama "The Walking Dead" already picked up, "The Killing" remains alone in contention for a series order at the network.

AMC orders fifth series, a crime drama
Quote:
AMC has given the green light for its fifth original series, giving a full series order to a pilot formerly known as "The Killing" from writer and executive producer Veena Sud ("Cold Case").

Sud has signed on to also serve as the showrunner for the series, which is currently untitled.

It is set in Seattle and based on Danish TV series “Forbrydelsen.” It tells the story of the murder of a young girl and the subsequent police investigation.

Production begins this fall in Vancouver with a premiere eyed for 2011. Season one consists of 13 one-hour episodes.

Produced by Fox Television Studios, it is executive produced by Mikkel Bondesen ("Burn Notice") for Fuse Entertainment. Fuse’s Kristen Campo co-produces.

AMC announced the pilot order in January with Patty Jenkins ("Monster") directing the pilot.

AMC's originals to-date are "Mad Men," "Breaking Bad," recently-launched "Rubicon" and upcoming "The Walking Dead."

“We are thrilled to be moving forward with this stunning piece of television," said Joel Stillerman, AMC’s senior vp of original programming, production and digital content. "It is a crime drama, but it is also a gripping character based story that pulls you in and doesn't let go. The storytelling is completely compelling, and the show is visually breathtaking."

I would guess that when Walking Dead ends, this will probably premiere after. That would typically belong to Breaking Bad, however with the next season pushed into next July that leaves the usually March premiere date wide open. Unless they end of putting "Hell on Wheels" in that slot.

AMC announced today a full series order for the pilot that was formerly known as The Killing, from writer and executive producer Veena Sud (Cold Case). Sud has signed on to also serve as the showrunner for the series, which is currently untitled. Set in Seattle, the series is based on the wildly successful Danish television series Forbrydelsen and tells the story of the murder of a young girl and the subsequent police investigation. Produced by Fox Television Studios, it is executive produced by Mikkel Bondesen (Burn Notice) for Fuse Entertainment. Fuses Kristen Campo co-produces. AMC first announced the pilot order in January 2010 with Patty Jenkins (Monster) directing the pilot. Production on the series begins this fall in Vancouver and season one consists of 13, one-hour episodes. The series is slated to premiere in 2011 on AMC.

Todays announcement marks the fifth original series greenlight for AMC. The first four were Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Rubicon and The Walking Dead.

We are thrilled to be moving forward with this stunning piece of television. It is a crime drama, but it is also a gripping character based story that pulls you in and doesn’t let go. The storytelling is completely compelling, and the show is visually breathtaking. Veena, Patty, Fuse, FTVS and the cast did a phenomenal job of bringing it to life. said Joel Stillerman, AMCs senior vice president of original programming, production and digital content.

“Ever since Mikkel Bondesen brought us this remarkable Danish mini-series, we were determined to bring it to American television, said David Madden, Executive Vice President, Fox Television Studios. “We are so proud to be working with AMC and our extraordinary cast on this very special series.”

As Sarah, Mireille Enos (Big Love) portrays the lead homicide detective that investigates the death of Rosie Larsen. Other previously announced castings include: Billy Campbell (Once and Again, Enough) as Darren Richmond, Seattles City Council President, running for Mayor; Michelle Forbes (True Blood) as Mitch Larsen, the victims mother; Joel Kinnaman (Snabba Cash) as Stephen Holder, an ex-narc cop who joins the homicide division in the investigation to find Rosie Larsens killer; and Brent Sexton (W., In the Valley of Elah) as Stan Larsen, the victims father.

The series ties together three distinct stories around a single murder including the detectives assigned to the case, the victims grieving family and the suspects. The story also explores local politics as it follows politicians connected to the case. As it unfolds, it becomes clear that there are no accidents; everyone has a secret, and while the characters think theyve moved on, their past isnt done with them.

AMCs Joel Stillerman, senior vice president of original programming, production and digital content and Susie Fitzgerald, senior vice president of scripted development and current programming, oversee development and production for the network.

AMC, which recently received 26 Emmy nominations, is the only network in television history to win three consecutive Golden Globe awards for best dramatic series for Mad Men (2008, 2009, 2010). Now in its fourth season, the series is garnering its highest ratings to date. The first two seasons of Breaking Bad awarded the outstanding lead actor Emmy award to Bryan Cranston for his portrayal of lead character Walt White. Rubicon, a conspiracy thriller starring James Badge Dale (HBOs The Pacific), premiered August 1st. The Walking Dead premieres in October.

Between my already existing AMC favorites; Breaking Bad, Mad Men and now the Walking Dead, with great sounding shows; The Killing, Hell on Wheels and The Wreck all set to premiere next year, AMC is looking to easily become my favorite channel.

Finally some damned news. I assumed this would start about March since of Breaking Bad's push to July it left that portion of the season available. It sounds like a much better version of Twin Peaks without all the acid, lol. Nearly the same plot, however hopefully this one doesn't involve
[Show spoiler] incestuous rape and murder through demonic possession.

Yeah that's what I was thinking to. Sounds like Twin Peaks but without all the weird stuff. Sounds good and hopefully it does good for AMC which I think it will.

AMC has some fantastic projects lined up for next year. If everything plays out the way I'm hoping those new shows could really push AMC to be the best cable channel available. They already have Breaking Bad, Mad Men and The Walking Dead. All of which are big hits, they still have The Killing, Hell on Wheels and The Wreck to debut. If they could have 6 big hits that puts them well above the lineups HBO and Showtime have and a hugely profitable network in only 4 years since debuting original content.

Yeah I have never seen Breaking Bad but it does sound like a good show and I'm waiting for the Blu to finish Walking Dead. Some people are saying that The Killing is the next Rubicon which I hope isn't true as all I know was that it was canceled. AMC is shaping up to be a huge player in the cable industry with so many good shows.

How exactly is The Killing shaping up to be like Rubicon? That article you posted earlier states they've only just started shooting. A murder mystery sounds a lot different than a conspiracy theory involving crossword puzzles, lol. We seem to have similar taste in shows, and I couldn't recommend Breaking Bad any more highly than I already do. One of the best of the decade. Yes it involves drugs but it is much deeper than that, I don't use drugs of any kind and never have but I LOVE that show.

Not sure some of the comments people posted were talking about how AMC viewers didn't like Rubicon so they won't like a murder mystery show either. Either way I think it will do good.

Cool I will have to check out Breaking Bad then as I've been holding off but keep hearing good things about it. Sounded like Weeds which is why I held off but after reading about the show more it sounds really cool and maybe even better then Weeds in my book.

If AMC fans can watch Mad Men, they shouldn't have a problem with The Killing.

I watched the first few seasons of Weeds but quickly grew tiring and annoyed with it. I can positively assure you it is nothing like Weeds. The only thing they have in common is well not really anything, yes there is a drug element but it is opposite sides of the spectrum. Comparing Weeds and Breaking Bad would be like comparing The Godfather to Showgirls, because they both have people.
