Default Universals lackluster releases

Due they just not allocate funds to there home video department? What's going on over there. Is there any insiders that have any scoops? Do they know the lackluster products they're dishing out lately?

I'm a very competitive person and I wouldn't want my rivals releasing quality products that put my products to shame.

Ok, here you go and these are just the ones in my personal collection:

12 Monkeys
The 40 Year Old Virgin
American Graffiti
Back to the Future trilogy
Darkman
Flash Gordon
The Last Starfighter
Tremors

Plus the ones I listed in the above post. There are of course others I didn't list.

I haven't personally seen any "crap" or "underwhelming" Blu-Ray transfers from Universal in person. I do remember how crap their version of Army Of Darkness was compared to MGM/Anchor Bay.

I think Universal has their priorities set on big blockbusters or high profile films rather than well received/remembered ones.

I don't get why some of these movies got good reiews for PQ if so many consider them bad transfers. Personally, I'm no expert, but I think The Thing looks fine. It's never going to be perfect, so it looks how I expected it to. Can't really speak for any of the other ones on your list, because I only own The Thing.

For this thread in general, I also own many more Universal Blus that all look great. Do The Right Thing, Out of Sight, etc. I won't start listing. But I think the same can be said for any studio. They have good and bad releases. Let's not act like Universal is the Blu-ray Devil.

It's probably a 'cost vs. profit' issue. If they minimize the cost they spend on a title, and it still manages to sell well, then why spend any more attention to them? And the reaction here might be lackluster, but there are plenty of people who think the titles Universal releases look pretty good, because they're either misinformed, or don't see the difference, or think it's still better than DVD. Quite understandable, from a business point of view.

I probably would have been satisfied with the BD release of The Thing if I had never owned the HD DVD, but since I do I know what the BD could have been. This is why I own The Thing on both formats.

Yeah? I guess I just benefited from waiting out the format war. But again, I am one of those who thinks Predator looks pretty good, not fantastic. The original bare bones release, not the DNR UHE. So maybe I'm not the best judge. Folks seem to hate that transfer...

Yeah, I guess so. I am just too much of a resolution nut to have waited. I got on board with HD DVD as soon as I could get a hold of a large 1080 display. I actually avoid videos on YouTube that are in 240 or 360.

Lol You beat my edit. Me too, though! I don't watch YouTube videos under 480p, unless there is absolutely no other option.

The last master for Scarface is several years old. If they use that one and slap DNR/EE on it then I will not be buying it. I don't care whether it's a steelbook or not.

You need some glasses/contacts then. All 3 parts have DNR and it's borderline heavy in parts 2 and 3.

your probably one of the few whos bashed the transfer this bad,i went to countless sites and many people on here agree the transfers not eye popping but it is good considering the age of the films,i mean not all films can look like avatar,127 hours etc. on blu

I wear glasses. I can honestly say after seeing Part 2 at least 5 times on every format since VHS including the WS LaserDisc, its the best it ever looked and probably ever will look for a long time.
Certainly not too big of a deal since many fans are selective to which movies they want to be cannon or not. The amount of bullshit and favoritism in the BTTF thread was ridiculous.
