Wink Is it better?

I am still wondering if the Blu-ray is still what we should be going for. The idea of replacing DVD with another Disc seems to be the wrong direction. I don't want my information, movies, or music to be lost because of a scratch to the disc. zip drives and other usb devices is what we need to be looking at. Imagine a small object that you just plug into you dash and it holds every song to you favorite band or a movie player that takes up no space at all. Any kind of open disc should be a thing of the past. We need something better then a disc that reads with blue lasser and that holds more. alexanderjtae@msn.com

This? http://colossalstorage.net/home_diskdrive.htm

Or some card like an SD card, that holds an entire HD movie? Or movie-collection?

you're missing the big picture here...

why come out with that...when they can still milk us for disks that can get damaged easily...

this way...we can purchase the same movie more than once....aside from the fact they come out with a bare bones version for every movie...and then another version for 10 bucks more and a bunch of crap people don't really end up watching anyways....

You don't seem very happy with it The Don.

It's true, if the opportunity exists, they'll release many versions of movies so you can buy the same movie several times.
For example, the medium. You bought a movie on VHS quite a while ago. Then DVD came. You bought the movie again on DVD. Now Blu-ray Disc will hit the market. Will you buy the movie for the third time?
It's easy for Hollywood. They make one movie and sell it 3 or 4 times to the same costumer!
You know it; they release a movie, then release the Special Edition (the one with the extra material) and later on a nicely boxed Collectors Edition. And now they'll release the movie in HD there you have your 4 versions.

exactly...and you actually gave it too much credit...

some movies have 4 versions by themselves out there....

take Snatch for example....

Snatch has:
Snatch DVD
Snatch Superbit
Snatch premium package with a deck of cards and other crap including the special edition
Snatch special edition
Snatch VHS
Snatch BD (coming soon)
Snatch PSP

I could be forgetting a few...but yeah, you get the point....when Sony owns the movie...they tend to milk it more than others do..

You have the choice not to buy, or you can sell your older versions and put the cash toward the new one!

It's our choice whether to buy these new versions or not, but the fact is that the public are happily lapping up special editions, etc, of movies they already own.

If they didn't sell, the companies wouldn't bother releasing them. But they do sell, so the companies keep churning them out...

They are, after all, in the business to make money. It's what they do, why do some people have a problem with businesses making money by selling a product..? The consumer has the choice whether to buy it or not.

I know full well that I'll be picking up HD versions of a few DVD's I have, and that's fine, it's my choice and my money.

The problem with Digital Content is, The Collector. Most people in the US take pride in their collection of DVD's. I know when ever new people come to my house and see my 350+ dvd's it always gets a comment, and then they start looking through the titles. I personally like being able to collect movies, it's fun and rewarding. I would probably not buy nearly as many if it was just a File i was purchasing. The packaging and all to me is half the prize.

that's not my point....they come out with them at different times 9 times out of 10...I noticed Batman Begins had the regular version and special edition come out at the same time...but most have the regular come out and then the special edition 3-6 months later...

the bare bones version should at least have better PQ since it has less features...

I don't care so much that there are 4 or 5 versions of every movie...I would like them to not be so obvious about it and have them released at the same time...
