Default 100% Blu-ray, but still no player

Still waiting for on board processing of DTS MA for $500 or under. I have an older reciever so 5.1 analog is my only option at this point. Is a player with this capability possible within the next couple months? I hope to have one before my kids start getting all there Christmas movies on DVD. I want them on Blu!

Thanks

I suspect soon you will have a PS3 under $500 that will get DTS-HD MA via a firmware upgrade before Christmas. Buy soon, and I think it's a safe bet you'll hear your DTS-HD MA on your brand new PS3 soon enough. Kids will go bonkers with the PS3, trust me.

PS3 does not have 5.1 analog outs so I can't get Dolby True HD or DTS MA. Otherwise I would.

Well the likelihood that PS3 will support surround sound via analog is very high, considering the built in SACD player that can't go through optical. If they support analog it'll be a big boom in the SACD format. Of course that's speculation, I might buy a new receiver myself soon so I can get HDMI in and hear SACDs.

PS3 with 5.1 analog outs? That would be awesome as I'd love SACD support also. Since that's a hardware issue has there been discussion that Sony will add analog connections on future PS3 releases. Thanks for the responses.

You're not 100% if you don't have one.

Perhaps...but my wife would beg to differ based on how much I talk about getting one. Just don't want to make a pre-mature purchase when the player I want may just be a couple months away.

BDP-S300 has analog outs. Stop making excuses and buy a blu-ray player.

I am picking up a BDP-S500 as soon as it hits the shelves.
I can't wait anymore for a stand alone player.

I was also glad to see they continued the 5 free movie offer.

If somebody gives you a PS3 for your Christmas present, you go get yourself an Onkyo 605 or any other receiver that can decode TrueHD and DTS. If not, you go get yourself the Onkyo 605 or any other receiver, then wait next year before you can afford a PS3.

Good one about crossing the road. Seriously though...just wondering if anyone knew of onboard decoding for any upcoming players. I guess I got my answers. Thanks

Nice welcome for the new member Way to add to the thread.

I think at this point Sony will be publicly lynched if they don't add DTS-HDMA and TrueHD decoding to the PS3, especially with Fox's re-entry into Blu-ray. It has the guts to support it, it's really only a matter of time. I'd just get the PS3 now, since most discs that have TrueHD also have a PCM track, and the DTS core of the DTS-HDMA tracks are still leaps and bounds better than anything on standard DVD.

Edit: Actually, as long as you have an HDMI receiver, you can listen to TrueHD just fine. HDMA is the only one you can't take advantage of yet. I don't know why I thought TrueHD wouldn't work, as the TrueHD track on the Nine Inch Nails disc is one of my favorites.
