Italy Now that there is Amazon Italy, what should we buy?

I already bought the Italian blu-ray of The Big Lebowski.

Are there any other good Hollywood movies that are released in Italy but not in USA/UK, and what are some good English-subtitled Italian movies to buy?

Wow, I never even knew

http://www.amazon.it Works seamlessly with my other Amazon accounts.

Thanks for letting us know though! There's lots of great DVDs but nothing comes to mind on Blu-ray (I have the excellent HDDVD of The Big Lebowski so no rush to change that) -hopefully this thread will bring up some interesting titles both Italian and international.

I had 8 films in my cart and they came out to about $23 each. A little high but the 14 euros for any number of movies shippecd is good if you plan buy a decent number.

I would recommend Happy Family as a blind buy. Mainly because it's directed by Gabrielle Salvatores, a brilliant Italian director. IMDB gave it a good mark. It says it has English subtitiles as well.

For English-speakers this is pretty much the best you could get at the moment that isn't available anywhere else.

Come dio commanda doesn't seem to be available on Blu Ray at the moment. Have you seen it Pro? Someone on IMDB hit it hard and it didn't get a very good average mark. Mine Vaganti is another one available, good mark and English subtitles ( or at least that's what it says on Amazon ).

Yes, and I liked it a lot. Salvatores' work resonates differently with different people. I did not like Denti a lot but a lot of people did. Mediterraneo looks beautiful but lacks depth. Quo Vadis, Baby? is a very smart film but very few people seem to have understood it.

Come Dio comanda looks very interesting. I shall investigate further!

I bet there's a few low-key-squirrelled away secret English language releases too? Come on, cough up the info

For folks fluent in Italian there are plenty of great titles. One of my favorite, for example:

vegasranger,

Once we have an affiliate - hopefully, early in 2011 - I would be more than happy to cover certain English-friendly Italian releases for the community. Hopefully, we could afford the coverage

Now that Amazon has an Italian branch, I will also do my best to provide info for various upcoming Italian releases on the forum in 2011. Italian cinema has the largest share in my library so this should not be too difficult.

http://www.amazon.it/Leggenda-Del-Pi...1055798&sr=1-1 has English subs, according to Amazon.

Pro-B, I don't suppose Baaria is English friendly, is it?

Ted,

No, unfortunately the Blu-ray disc isn't. A UK SDVD is coming in early January though:

Interestingly... but disappointingly.... I've placed 2 big orders with Amazon IT and they're already a week past their "will deliver by" date. I'm wondering if they've fallen victim to the notoriously unreliable Italian postal service? Awaiting Amazon IT's response... not sure if they used a trackable means of shipment or not.

If your orders are mix of UK, German and/or French articles, don't expect them shipped from Italy, you only get Italian invoice .

Yeah, and Europe has had really bad weather early December and again just before Christmas that closed airports and even highways and rail lines and created a huge backlog in travel & shipping. I usually get orders from Amazon UK in a week to 10 days, but an order that dispatched Nov. 22 didn't arrive until Dec. 24.

They're all Italian flicks. But that's a good point about the recent EU weather... kinda forgot about that.
