I was playing The Matrix BD yesterday.
Before playing the movie I went to the audio menu and the only item there was "Button Audio: On or Off". What the hell is "button audio?" ![]() ![]() I know on Warner titles that you have to go to the language menu and select Dolby TrueHD. If you don't it will default to DD 5.1. |

This is the best explanation I could find:
"Button audio, or menu audio as it is sometimes called, is a feature of "secondary audio" on most discs. So if you have secondary audio turned off in your player setup you won't hear any button sounds." |

Yes, it is secondary audio that produces sound effects on disc menus. Depending on your player, you may need to enable SA in the configuration before the remote button does anything.

These button clicks tend to onle work through PCM i.e. your player is decoding the HD audio and sending PCM to you reciever. On PS3's, mainly the older models you only get the button clicks when its set to PCM out but on the newer PS3 Slim (only on some discs) I found the button clicks are audible when the playback audio is set to DTS HD-MA this may be to do with HDMI 1.4 profile cables but I could be wrong. I currently hear them (Universal discs mostly) because I have an older amp and my player is decoding the HD audio.
Button audio is just a nice little touch the authing facility has added (usually sounds relevent to the movie. Universal ones are generic like the menues) to make you're BD experience more fun. Most of the time I don't think people know they are there. GP ![]() |
