Best Buy Sells Most High Def - Blu-ray Forum

This is kind of sad, considering Best Buy's pricing. They also seem to promote HD-DVD more in store as well. My sister recently bought an HDTV and the salesperson told her that apparently the HDTV would be unable to play DVDs without an HD-DVD player. Disgusting.

On the other hand, Best Buy has definitely had the best selection I've seen as far as High-Def media.

From my experience, the fact that Walmart is #3 in high-def sales is amazing. I've gone to 3 Walmarts around where I live and where my girlfriend lives and they have a pityful (if anything at all) high-def section. My walmart makes the blu-rays hard to find and doesn't have a good selection. I'm really hoping that they at least get Surf's Up in tomorrow.

Yeah, this report really surprised me.

I would think Amazon would be #1.
But then again BB is a place where people drop 2-4 grand on a TV so the 20-30% markup plus tax doesn't phase them a bit I guess.

For me...Why pay full retail when you don't have to.

The Walmart's by me are horrible. Even Target has more in-stock.
I am also pleased to see end cap displays and players at my local BJ's and Sam's Club.

Best Buy's pricing is to pay for its overhead. Employees, brick and mortar, stock and the like. I am suprised that an employee would say something like that, without being there it is tough to say.

Best Buy doesn't support HD DVD. They support the income. And if HD DVD is willing to give away their players, well Best Buy will roll with it. Trust me, blu-ray is outselling HD DVD at Best Buy.

I'm in the Chicago land area and my Best Buy and CC ads in my Sunday paper had big pushes for BLU and not one mention of that other format

Instant gratification. That is what it is all about. A lot of people don't like waiting for Amazon to ship out the movies. They want it now, not in a few days. I don't mind waiting a day or two to save $5 to $10 on some movies. Then again, I buy some stuff (not usually BDs) from Overstock.com because they are less expensive. I have purchased a few from Best Buy because I wanted them right away and paid over $5 more than amazon. I couldn't wait. Plus, people just get in the habit of buying their stuff from one place. They trust Best Buy and may not trust ordering over the internet. There are after all, a lot of people who don't have computers.

This doesn't surprise me. I'd much rather buy locally, if at all possible, and don't mind a paying a little more for that convenience. Since Best Buy usually has the best selection, it's always my first stop.

For the most part, the only time I use Amazon (or some other online service) is when I can't find a particular title locally.

I was told by a Blueshirt that only LCD TVs could play Blu-ray movies. I said thanks and walked out.

Their prices do stink. I have purchased exactly one BD there, Black Hawk Down for $13.99. Amazon is cheaper and Prime pays for itself after a couple of months from not shopping at Worst Buy, plus I get new releases on release day.

Every business sells everything it can and without a doubt HD DVD does have a cheaper player. But even with a cheaper player Blu is outselling HD DVD in players (at least in the store my b/f works) at last count 17-3.

There is no doubt that if the current trend continues that Blu will prevail.

No surprises.

CC is lower than the others, because of foot traffic to the stores. It more than makes up for the crappy selections at Target and Wal-Mart.

I work at BBY in the Bay Area and for sure at my BBY they outsell HD-DVD easily, I think most Magnolia & regular HT reps always recommend Blu-Ray over HD-DVD. I also don't think this is a surprise since they are the biggest electronics retailer in the U.S.

I dont know why bestbuy employees would be pushing tv's and stuff my friend worked in the camera department and even if he sold 100 digital cams a day he didnt get anything extra in his check... who would push sales if there not gonna benefit.

best buy doesn't support HD DVD. it sells HD DVD. i mean, come on, have you even tried to look at the displays? There is a 3 to 1 advantage over HD DVD in promotional displays. all i have ever seen is a lone HD DVD display with a toshiba regza and a20 player and there are 3 blu-ray displays to boot.

The Best Buy I go to here has a wall split down the middle with HD DVD and BD. Then there is an addition BD Kiosk and no HD DVD. So there is a bit more BD selection and a stand alone Kiosk for it.

Hopefully Frys continues to grow. They are like Best Buy on crack. They have all Amazon prices on BD and most of their TVs are connected with Blu-Ray players and TRUE HD media. Best buy always has this crappy HD signal on their tvs that looks like shit. Watching Ultraviolet at Frys on a BD player and huge LCD was what originally made me go crazy about getting a BD rig. You dont get that wow factory at Best Buy.

B/c if you own stock you want sales so the company does well and therefore your stock goes up, the store does better, and they have money for pay raises.

I know that Fry's has a bigger selection, though. If Fry's was in other states besides TX, AZ, and CA, they would be hosing BB.

Best Buy gives pay raises? Since when? At my store we figured out an average of about 13 cents, once a year. That's a slap in the face, especially for all the crap they expect you to shovel for them. My home theater department was number one in the company for a few months, and we saw jack squat. Unless you're a totally amateur sales person, or a supervisor, Best Buy is one of the worst retail places to work.

I have 2 Best Buys in my area, one of them is split 50/50 and actually has REDUCED their selection of BOTH formats. The other one is 50/50 in the aisle, but has a dedicated Blu-ray kiosk, but not one for HD-DVD. I like the store, but they are definitely WAY overpriced, $75 for an HDMI cable my ass!
