Default Movie watchin only - smart to go from Panasonic DMP-BD75 to Oppo 93?

Would the extra $400 be a wise "investment" in the Oppo or am I not really gaining anything for movie watching experience only?

The Panny looks to be an entry level player so I would expect the Oppo to surpass it in every way.

Just got the Oppo 95 which is very similar to the 93 for video.
The 95 provides an awesome BR picture and I'm stunned by it's upscaling of DVD's. I would look at the 93 as being a wise choice if you have the funds.

some people say that all blu ray is the same on the players and some do not. depends on the player and tv that you own. the only problem that I have with the panasonic 210 is not playing t2 skynet edition. it seem to crash on it. works fine on the oppo 93 and ps3. I like the ease of use on the oppo 93.
I use the oppo 93 for the majority of my movie watching.

But you did not answer my question at all. Is the oppo worth the extra $$$ just for picture quality. No other features?

For blu-ray playback with 1080p24p mode on, with using HDMI for audio, nothing really.

The benefit of using the Oppo is the scaling features, notably for DVDs, which does improve picture quality for DVDs compared to using the scalers on your TV or players, less artifacts created by the scaling in comparison. This is more evident with larger front projection set ups and closer seating distances. The scaling is also applied for blu rays when not using the 24p mode on the player. It's basically meant to be a substitute for a more expensive independent scaler, although an actual scaler is still better.

I noticed you are doing a home theater based on your construction pictures, looks like you are going for front projection. If you are planning a CIH (2.35:1) set up, I'd get the Oppo player just for the ability for adjusting subtitles. This not only applies for foreign films, but also select American films, where non-english dialog plays. Movies such as 2012 and Godzilla (1998) have player produced subtitles placed in the black bar. The oppo fixes this by moving the subtitles in the picture for these select movies.

I fall under the school of thought that all blu-ray players if connected via the HDMI out will output the same picture quality in regards to 1080/24 content as well as audio and that a buyer should really look at player usability/ergonomics such as load times.

This was helpful. Thank you.

This should get interesting..

Why are you upgrading? That Panasonic should actually be a pretty darn good player for its price. In my opinion you'd probably end up getting a slightly better image and DVD upscaling quality. But then again, is that worth $400? That all depends on your setup and is $400 too much for you. If it is then maybe something in the middle. Panasonic BDT210? Or wait for their new players that were just shown at the CES 2012.

Picture quality is something that matters. But for $400 more and being top of the line, the Oppo should not be "slightly" better. It should be blowing the Panny out the water no? BR movies are the only ones I watch. Dont care about the 3D at all. $400 can be spent elsewhere BUT if there is that much difference in picture quality money will not be a problem. I just dont like spending cash for no reason.

I went from the Panny BD35 or 65 cant remember to the Oppo 93. If its for PQ only on BR DISCS keep ur money its not a 400$ difference.
