I'm guessing this may be related to my equipment more so than the Blu Ray(as I sat down and watched Fantastic Four on a 1080p TV today and it looked stunning). But..when I play it on my home screen, i get these never ending specs all over the place(they show up more in dark scenes, but can still be very apparent in light scenes). I have a ViewSonic n3252w. Here's the link to the specifications:
http://www.viewsonic.com/products/la.../N3252w/#specs Anyways, is this what seperates 1080i from 1080p? I'm noticing it on many movies, including Planet Earth, Fifth Element and a few others. I'm using a PS3 for the Blu Ray playback and am connected via HDMI to the display. And...it only seems to happen in live action films. It seems to carry well on animated, with zero of these specs. What can I do to improve quality? Should I force the PS3 to display in 720p? Should I change the finite settings more? Or am I in need of a much better display? ![]() |

well the specs say it is a 720/1080i tv NOT 1080p. Bigger TV & a brand name will look better.
Sharpness setting will not get rid of grain, if you have any SONY bd's in the disc menu type in, using the remote, 7669. Goto the video setup or what ever it is called, I forget the name. Goto the 2nd screen (& pause), you will see lots of lines & circles, use the sharpness setting on the tv to adjust the lines & circles sharp, you will never get them perfect. & if you can on your tv, fix some of the overscan. |

Ok, I will search for a Sony BD and try what you thought, and I think I'm talking about grain. Gonna try!

Talladega Nights, Casino Royale, and The Fifth Element are Sony titles.
Since you're there (I assume on the Monoscope B/w resolution chart pattern), turn the sharpness all the way down. Then slowly bring it up till the image seems to come into focus and stop, don't keep going up "overenhancing" it. And with the color bars you can set the white level with the white square (usually turning up the contrast) till it looks as white as it can get and stop (sometimes you can go higher but it doesn't make it any whiter) Turn the black level down (usually the brightness) till the pluge (a small lighter than black "domino" on the lower right) to about as dark as it can get. |
