Hope they have access to more of the Universal Hammer catalogue!

What is with the insane prices on these latest Hammer discs? Dracula hasn't dropped below £17, and these other two are £17 and (ulp!) £25! The SC releases were all roughly £13. Oh well, at least the line isn't dead, although I may be waiting a while to buy these.

They've been added to the database as Studio Canal but they're actually from Final Cut Entertainment, who've previously released a couple of the other Universal Hammers on DVD. Unknown quantity on BD so here's hoping they do a good job.

How have their DVDs been?

This is excellent news. Will Hammer be involved in the restoration / transfer?

The prices are a bit strange. £16.79 for Evil Of Frankenstein (79?) &...£25.49 for Brides Of Dracula! Early days, I'm sure those prices will sort themselves out. £12 tops for me, meanwhile the Universal DVD's look very good...& not at all cold

I haven't really heard much. They released Curse of the Werewolf and Kiss of the Vampire but everyone I know already had them on the Universal set.

They also released House of the Long Shadows on DVD which seems to be close to the german BD by all accounts.

The sad thing is that Universal have since created another transfer but it's at 2:1 after some seemingly bad research and loses a lot of information from the bottom compared to the one used for the R1 DVD. It also has different colour timing. This is what Final Cut were originally supplied by Universal and were planning on using.

There are various screen cap comparisons in some threads over at the Classic Horror Film Board from a TV broadcast of the newer transfer.

Couldn't get the link as I'm on Tapatalk and the yuku app but I saved one set of caps from over there as an example.

Universal DVD

TV Broadcast

Quite a severe difference...

I plan on getting both of these but haven't ordered yet (gotta slow down a bit with my blu-ray buying for a time).

Have them both in my price tracker and am keeping an eye on them.

My copies of both films have dispatched today. I'll report back when I receive them if no other reviews have been posted! Fingers crossed for good news!

Yeah, its just that I have BRIDES already preordered and its gonna ship on Sat from Amazon.uk (I live in the US). So I was hoping a review would come out before hand so I'd know whether to not to keep pre-order. sigh

If those caps are accurate in that review then it looks like Brides is 2:1.

I'll be substituting the 1:66 US DVD for the UK one in Brides' case then. Annoying, but can't be helped I suppose.
