Default High Value Receivers from Best Buy?

I was looking into replacing my old Technics receiver (since the optical inputs seem to be shot on it), and was wondering if there were any good units at Best Buy? I'm not looking for the highest of high end but rather best value for the dollar. Any ideas?

Without really knowing what it'd buy, I'd say 800, but would be willing to go higher for something special.

I would be tempted to go for the Marantz 5006 or for cheaper the 6004 if you don't need 3D and yo can still find it in store.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Marantz+...&skuId=2761025

I know you are going to get various answers and it also depends if you want to have all the bells an whistles. I mean it's really hard to say this is the one you should get as they all have their pros and cons.

You can have the 6004 here for a great price, ypu can shop aroud as Onkyo also offers great price performance ratio.

If you need 3D the 6005 is also available.

This 1007 for instance is quite a beast.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am probably going to stick with BB because even though the prices are higher, I can pay it off over time without interest.

That said, what does the 6006 offer over the 5006?

Like you, I am shopping; found a Pioneer Elite VSX -50 at BB for $600 so that is my entry point.

Just my $.02

Thanks for the Pioneer suggestion, but I think I will probably end up with the Marantz. While I like the idea of the extra features of the 6006, I'm not sure I'd use them. Which is a consideration since the 6006 is $400 more.

Unless you need:

- Upgradeable Audyssey MultEQ XT to Pro;
- 7.2ch pre-outs (instead of 2.2ch );
- DC triggers;
- Video scaling (the 5006 does only video conversion and not scalling);
- 110W vs 100W (20Hz - 20kHz, 0.08% THD, 2ch driven);
- Extra HDMI input (front panel);
- 2nd simultaneous HDMI output;
- Phono input.

So if you need any of those, get the SR6006 instead of the SR5006. If not, save some money and get the SR5006 instead.

If you really want to get value for your dollar at BB you should familarize yourself with the various levels that different brands offer, pick the level you want to target and then keep an eye on their open box/closeout stuff.

It's not the most efficient way to shop but if you get lucky you can find some really nice deals that way.
