Can anyone tell me if this release has the same black crush problem in season 8 that the now out-of-print UK set apparently had?

Probably not. This was an issue several years ago, i believe.

I'd assume if it's a new set with the smaller footprint then it has fixed discs. If it was the initial run then I'd be slightly concerned.

Not 100% about the DE set, but original sets had 25mm cases for each season, but as this is the 1-11 set I would be very surprised if it didn't have the correct discs. I think think the set is smaller even though it contains more content.

But this is a 1-11 set too. Is this not the set that people complained had a black crush problem?

No, not as far as I know, it was the 1-9 set that had issues.
