Default Doctor Dolittle (1967) from Twilight Time

Exciting news, folks!! Coming to Blu-ray on November 14, 2017, from Twilight Time, the 1967 classic Doctor Dolittle. This will be a limited edition release of 3000 copies from a new 4K master.

Quote:
Synopsis from IMDb....Doctor Dolittle is a world-renowned veterinarian who speaks a wide array of animal languages. He sets off from his home in Puddleby-on-the-Marsh, England, in search of the Great Pink Sea Snail. In so doing, he and his friends meet such exotic creatures as the Pushme-Pullyu and the Giant Lunar Moth. This musical is the source of the hit song, "If I Could Talk To The Animals."
Directed by Richard Fleischer (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Soylent Green, Conan the Barbarian, Fantastic Voyage, and many more well known classics).

Starring:

Rex Harrison (The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, The Agony and the Ecstasy) in one of his most beloved roles
Samantha Eggar (The Molly McGuires, The Brood)
Richard Attenborough (The Sand Pebbles, The Flight of the Phoenix, Jurassic Park, 10 Rillington Place)

This is one I'm surprised Fox never released to blu-ray themselves. Still, I'm glad it's finally coming!

I'll get this if it's a new master, the German BD is really ugly.

EDIT: Per HTF it will be, "* Sourced from a new 4k restoration that is still in preparation", good news.

Can't wait for this one. I used to love watching it as a kid.

A flawed musical to be sure, but still a favorite. I hope the 4K restoration is from the camera negs and not an interpositive.

This release is only about 10 years too late for me, my daughter is a cynical teen now and probably won't appreciate the movie. When she was 3, she made us watch "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" every day for a solid month, and I kept wishing I could show her Dolittle too. I fear it won't hold up to me as an adult, but boy, did I love this movie when I was little! Samantha Eggar may have been my first movie-star crush. I think I was in 2nd grade when I volunteered to bring our copy of the soundtrack album into my classroom to share. Unfortunately, when we tried to play it, the album was so severely warped it kept hitting the turnstile arm of the school's record player (not the usual skinny arm, this one was about 2 inches thick and hard gray plastic, I can still see it), causing it to skip and rendering it unplayable. I was so embarrassed! It seems I was cursed from an early age to experience the frustrations of being a home theatre enthusiast.

Nevertheless, this will be mine! Thank you, Twilight Time!

The complete roadshow version with excised musical numbers still exists; a pity this won't have that material reinstated. I'll still be picking it up though. That incredible cinematography desperately needs the HD upgrade. I liked the film ok as a child and still do, but it's no CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, which was my absolute favorite film as a child and still holds a place in my top ten.

The complete roadshow version is what we are getting. The excised numbers were cut before the film opened

This has to be the best year for APJAC movies on Blu-ray since 2008:

- What a Way to Go!
- Tom Sawyer
- Huck Finn
- Doctor Dolittle

After these there are only 4 more needed to be released (Goodbye Mr. Chips, Topper Returns, The Chairman, Play it Again Sam), would love to see the latter two especially.

Hmmmm, never realized that Fleischer directed this. Might have to pick it up; been years since I last saw it.

NOTE: This presentation of Doctor Dolittle on Blu-ray is a brand new 4K transfer taken from the Todd-AO 70mm original negative. The PQ and audio (5.1) are stunning!

The video will probably be as stunning as the reissue of Journey to the Center of the Earth and First Men in the Moon. Sweet!

This is easily my most anticipated release for the remainder of the year, even more than The Thing, Suspiria or Early Romero, just to see how much nicer it looks than the German BD. I guess with all the work that went into this it's probably fair to say that we'll never see the deleted scenes,

Yep, pre-order. But I'm waiting for it to be actually available to order, so I can choose the best price (looks like links from eBay and Amazon will be available).

It IS available to order, it was released on November 14th. Today is the 20th. And the best price will be through those two links because it'll only be 3rd party sellers on Amazon and E-bay who will mark up the price.
