Default Mitsubishi 73' DLP, has dots on screen, fix or replace?

My trusty Mitsubishi 73 inch DLP has been having issues with the white dots on one side of the screen. I have just dealt with it because I didn't want to track down someone to fix it, or have to pay through the nose to fix it. well now it has gotten progressively worse and the white dots are now going all the way across the screen, and now we also have black dots on the screen as well.

I remember seeing someone else on here had the issue and it was a DLP chip they had replaced and it fixed it. This tv is 5-6 years old now and is out of warranty and my extended warranty just expired last year. it is to the point my wide wont watch any movies in the theater room because of the screen. I also remember when I read about the other members issues with this, it was fairly expensive to fix.

so my question is this... does anyone know a round about estimate how much it is to fix this issue? and would it be worth it to get it fixed, or just replace the tv with a Flat Panel TV ( LED or 4k ) or possibly a projector (ceiling mount) ? not wanting to spend more than $1500 at the very most right now.
