Default Black Death - May 10th Official Thread

I used the search function and couldn't find anything posted for the US release.

Quote:
A band of brothers led by the feared knight, Ulric, sets out on a quest to hunt down a necromancer after sending a young monk, Osmund, to investigate rumours of people being brought back to life. When Osmund discovers the identity of the necromancer, a mysterious and beautiful young woman called Langiva, he finds himself torn between his love of God and his love for the young mistress of Satanic arts.
I like Sean Bean, so I'm interested in checking this out for that reason alone.

Priced at $20.99, here's the link:

I watched the UK release of this not long ago.... the movie itself isn't bad (but isn't particularly good either IMO... hearing Sean Bean doing the Boromir accent was laughable too), but the worst thing was the horrible shakycam in this - the camera work is terrible in parts, particularly during action scenes or where a character is running etc.

Anything worthwhile with renting this Blu-Ray?

deado pretty much summed it up pretty nicely. Pretty good flick and yes,it is worth at least a rental. I would buy it if I see it priced lower however. A good movie I would probably want to come back to once in a blue moon.

I really liked the darkness the ending to this movie had!

+1. I caught it for free on HDNET movies for a preview. It started off quite strong and had a lot going for it, but then kinda lost its footing. Quite a graphic film as it progresses as well and indeed does have a dark ending. I like nonconventional endings but this one definately puts one in a "downer" type mood...think The Road meets Valhalla Rising with a bit of The Name of the Rose thrown in.

Worth a rental, nice scenery that could've benefited from better cinematographer, and the supporting cast of characters (particularly Bean 's entourage) are rather 2 dimensional.

But if you can rent it, give it a try at least once.

That worries me. I really disliked The Road and found Valhalla Rising to look absolutely stunning but was unbearably boring imo. Is Black Death a bit faster paced?

This movie is more like what Hollywood should be doing. It doesn't rely on sex, explosions, over-done CG, and politically correct hidden brainwashing agendas to get through. I enjoyed it much more than most movies that make top ratings, much more than most movies that come out period.

i give this movie 4/5 and it is quite a good movie and probably the 2nd best movie about the black plague. seventh seal being the 1st.

i liekd the uneasy tension the director created. its like u feel ure never safe. and the introduction to this movie is brilliant.

[Show spoiler]i thought this movie had a really subtle supernatural elements in it...like the necromancer ***** was indeed the necromancer...with all the setup and the women around her...and how her face changes and raising the dead. yes she did die. it was obvious with all the blood when osmund found her. also sean bean actually being death himself in human form. i like to think it this way...they also said death hasnt left us, as the mercanaries knew he had the plague. "god has told him to come"....makes me think the mercanaries were god's soldiers but human. i also liked the ending, i understood it...it was perfect.

and i agree about the ending, shouldve been a little bit more fleshed out. wouldve been amazing. 30 more mins longer wouldve been perfect. would clock it at 2 hours 10 mins.

Ive never seen the seventh seal, ill check it out

love this film although IMO
[Show spoiler]there is no supernatural elements in this film, she is just drugged, makes it worse when he kills her. I think this whole film relies on the fact of fear of the unknown, I dont overly believe that sean beans character believes in necromancy. its a mission and he will do anything to complete it.

great movie
