Ok, I need help choosing a set of headphones.
I want to use them mostly for playing games on my PS3 at night when my wife and little wonder are sleeping, but I also want to have the ability to watch Blu-rays w/ the best possilbe sound and listen to my reciever (streaming, music, t.v., etc.). They must be able to work wireless with my Onkyo RC-180 reciever. I do not want to hook up to my PS3. I am looking for headphones with certain functions which are : -wireless -microphone -7.1 surround sound - $100 - $200 range - good battery life Am I missing anything? I have seen these but not sure if they will suit my needs. http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wirel...s=logitech+7.1 Any help is appreciated since I'm not sure what to look for. |

The problem with wireless gaming headphones is that they usually plug in a usb port of a gaming console or pc, so you can't use your receiver. You will never get an audiophile sound out of a gaming headset.
The Turtle Beach EarForce PX5 does have an optical in and is considered by many one of the best wireless gaming headset. You would get better audio quality with a wired one (and better selection). I would look for a better headphone and just buy a clip-on mic. If gaming is your primary concert and dolby 7.1 is a must then gaming headsets it is. I second the Turtle Beach EarForce PX5 if you're looking for strictly a gaming wireless headset. These reviews might help you find the best quality while searching for a reasonable deal: http://reviews.cnet.com/best-wireless-headphones/

I think the problem here is the connection to the receiver though. It is a high prerequisite and to my knowledge all gaming phones are made for consoles and pc. A decision has to me made. If it were me I would purchase a good pair of cans for music that has a good soundstage and separation, by a clip-on mic.

I see that the Turtle Beach PX5 come w/a optical cable, can I use that to hookup to my reciever? Is there some sort of connector that would allow to use wireless headphones(usb) w/ my reciever? |

It's just that 7.1 gaming headphones are built for that purpose. I haven't searched but you would need phones that can be connected analog to use your receiver's phone out. Audio wireless phones have this, gaming, probably not.

I don't have a clue about digital or analog, I thought the connection was my only problem. I am gonna say I'm leaning toward a gaming set since it's primarily for gaming so I can crank the volume while the family is asleep. Okay so what is a better set of cans, Turtle Beach EarForce PX5 ($250) or Logitech G950 ($110-$150)? If you think the PX5 is better please tell why they warrant spending an extra $100+ dollars. |
