not really, if you go to the amazon.co.jp links, the pic of the opened steelbook looks g2 but the pic of the front cover only clearly looks g1, just look at blade runner

Anyone know if there's any difference between the Canadian versions of 2001 and Shawshank Redemption vs. these Japanese versions?

If they are indeed G2, they may well turn up in another country, say Canada or Germany.

These have all been done already! Except possibly for SEVEN.

Canadian versions of almost all of these exist -- some with the exact same artwork -- and those are already G2.

I would've liked to see new titles, but Amazon.jp is expensive anyways.

Thats what I was going by. The open steelbook pics. It wouldn't make sense for WB to go G1 on these when most of them have already been done in other countries. GreatGreg has a point. We'll just have to wait and see then. Japan rarely/hardly get G1 Steels.

But that could change...

i think we might have our answer here for sure if its G1 or G2
all of the front covers look G1.but if you look closely.... all of the illustrations are elongated especially obvious on Keanu Reeves face and on the "2001" cover.
the design in the middle is suppose to be a perfect circle...this is obviously not.compare it to the Canadian release and you will see.
i say G2 all the way

this was just confirmed on hidefninja to be indeed G2 !!! its official !!!

Just pre-ordered 5 of them. Japan has the best quality steels IMO.

why cannot they release steelbooks for movies that hasn't been released in steelbook form before????

Warner has got huge selection of classic titles, but all I see is steelbook releases for Inception, Batman, Sherlock Holmes.....

not interested at all!
