No Marvel's The Avengers? These guys just lost a lot of credibility from me.

**** AFI! They arent anything special and their opinions arent any better than the rest of us. Its still funny how all these movie clubs or groups continue to ignore horror/comic book films. Yes they listed TDKR but we all know why so they made an exception there. They can kiss my azz. Got Em!!

Avengers (8/10) wouldn't make my top ten either, so meh.

I will be the first to post that TDKR doesn't belong on that list.

Umm I would choose their opinions over 95% of the posters on this messageboard. Horror film? I have seen only one horror film in my life that was worthy of Best Picture and that was The Exorcist in 1974. The Sting was a great film but I would have chosen the Exorcist.

Decent list, surprisingly. Glad to see Argo and Django Unchained there (I assume Django will be awesome), I wish that The Master made it, but whatever. The Dark Knight Rises being there is preposterous though.

Seriously. There was so much wrong plot wise. I like it well enough, but best of the year it was not. I'd trade it out with Skyfall tbh.

Indeed. Especially since The Dark Knight Rises made the list. And even the Nolan Batfans didn't care much for that one.

But AFI's out of touch with reality anyway. So best to just nod your head and just ignore what they say.

Also, they don't ignore horror films. Their top 100 lists both feature Jaws, King Kong and The Silences of the Lambs and the original one had Frankenstein. You can debate whether or not Silence is a horror film, but the point stands.
That was a psychological thriller. Totally different.

... snip...

And it's not like their list can or should tell you what to watch. Go and watch whatever you want, the AFI is not stopping you, nor are their agents from the AFI standing in the theatre with knives, preventign people from seeing whatever they want.
Oh, go put your flower in someone else's rifle y'damn hippie. You don't know AFI like I do. See, I live near their historic Silver Theater with its large, scrolling digital sign supposedly advertising what's playing but actually flickering subliminal messages about how wrong my taste is. They trample on my freedom to watch what I want, trying to force me to like documentaries, foreign, independent, cult and "classic" movies that no one actually likes... they just pretend to so they can smugly brag to their hipster, over-sized-black-framed glasses-wearing friends noshing on bagels at the Panera on the corner. No, you're naïve and someday -- maybe not soon -- the AFI bogeymen will catch up with you, stuffing your mouth with one of their lists in your sleep, giving you paper cuts on your tongue that you'll never forget. And when they do, mark my words you'll rue the day you defended their evil ways.

Sorry. I had a flashlight under my chin and pointed upward. Makes me type crazy sh*t.

Yes. Cause I'm obviously talking about every Nolan Batfan who ever existed and ever will exist.

Look, we get that you love the film. That's great! But a lot of the fans of the first two were left feeling letdown.

That's kinda what happens when you place The Dark Knight on a pedestal and consider it the second coming.

Is that Nolan's fault you placed it on a pedestal? I love that film to death as well but it's all about keeping expectations in check.

My criteria going into Rises was simple; it had to be better than Begins. Mission accomplished.

I didn't put TDK on a pedestal. In fact I loathed the film. I actually think TDKR, regardless of it's numerous flaws, is the best of the three.

Oh I feel better now thanks for clearing that up. Your opinion is the one I care about. Got Em!!

Again u are one person. I am talking about in general that horror films dont get credit they deserve simply because they are horror. If u think only The Exorcist is the only great horror film then me and u dont even need to discuss this. Got Em!!

And they do put comic book films. You admitted they put in TDKR for reasons we apparently all know. I actually do not know this supposed "reason" so nice try.

And you can't honestly tell me this list surprised you in any way. It's literally the safest, most cookie-cutter list possible, and is exactly what I would expect from a group like the AFI. You had to know it would look like this. If you're going to get the upset about it, why even look at the results? You can't honestly have expected the list to have The Avengers, Spider-Man, Prometheus, and so.

And it's not like their list can or should tell you what to watch. Go and watch whatever you want, the AFI is not stopping you, nor are their agents from the AFI standing in the theatre with knives, preventign people from seeing whatever they want.
King Kong also isnt a horror film. So they list 2 actual horror films in the top 100. Whoopty doo. Also I know I aint gonna change nuthin but this is a discussion board right? Thought so. TDKR while it is a comic book film, Nolan's version try to be like a real life drama in that everything can actually take place and as some say is dark and serious so it doesnt feel like a comic film. So I guess its ok to list that one cause people arent flying around. Just plain garbage. If u think horror films get the respect due then u are sadly mistaken. The Cabin in the Woods is easily one of the best films this year Got Em!!

So glad that The Dark Knight Rises was recognized. The Avengers was great but c'mon. It didn't carry the emotional weight and ambitious story-telling of TDKR.
