Thumbs up Best TV Shows To Own On Blu-ray

Just wondering what everyone's favorite TV show on Blu-ray is...Of what I own, I'd say Band of Brothers is my favorite and probably the best in terms of PQ/AQ. All things considered, what would you say are the best TV shows to own on Blu-ray?

On a sidenote, I just started watching Lost (after I picked up seasons 1 - 5 for $108 on Amazon last week). After completing Season 1, it's quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite series. Probably my greatest blind buy ever.

From the shows that I own I'd have to say:

LOST
DEXTER
FRINGE

Shows I've heard are great on blu, but have not seen myself:

BAND OF BROTHERS
ROME
THE SOPRANOS
FIREFLY
MAD MEN

I wish I would've known about that deal...$27 is a great price. A friend of mine recommended the show to me and I've been meaning to check it out. I'll have to keep my eyes open for another sale.

Love Chuck, but it might be the worse transfer of any TV show on Blu-ray. The audio and picture aren't a huge step up from the DVD. I'd still recommend it because it's cheap and the show is amazing but it's far from reference quality. In my opinion Lost is probably the best show in terms of audio/video quality (and of course the show is great). Dexter and Mad Men are both very good as well.

So far, I have the following TV shows or mini-series on Blu-ray:
  1. Planet Earth- both beautiful and interesting.
  2. John Adams- excellent mini-series. I got it at Best Buy for $25.
  3. Rome- I only saw a few episodes when it was syndicated so I can't say how good it is yet. It got good reviews. This was a Gold Box buy for me.
  4. Band of Brothers- great reviews but I've only watched the first few episodes. $39.99 today on Amazon! I got it at Barnes & Noble for $50.
  5. Mad Men- I rented one DVD of this series and liked it so much that I bought the first two seasons on Blu-ray.
  6. True Blood- Not as good as Mad Men but it's addictive.
  7. Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles- I have the first three Terminator movies on Blu-ray and this TV show was probably better than Terminator 3 and definitely better than Terminator Salvation. I wish it hadn't been canceled after two seasons.
  8. Heroes- Some episodes are interesting but the overall story arc wasn't well thought out. Video quality is not consistent.
  9. Pushing Daisies- Offbeat, whimsical, very colorful, not compelling like Mad Men. You have to be in the right mood to watch this.
  10. Chuck- Funny and Yvonne Strahovski is gorgeous! I thought it was canceled after two seasons but Season 3 starts in January.
  11. Lost- Terrific first episode and interesting for many more. It got "lost" in season 3 but found itself again.
  12. Firefly- This show was canceled after one season and I can sort of understand why. A western in space is a bit weird. I liked the movie Serenity more than the TV show. I'll watch any show with Summer Glau in it. Adam Baldwin was funny and has a role similar to the one on Chuck.
  13. Star Trek TOS- The video quality is excellent. I'm glad they upgraded the special effects. Some of the episodes are very good and some are bad, so the show lacks consistency. I consider Star Trek to be a ground breaking sci-fi TV show. Viewing suggestion: watch the episode Arena (Season 1, Episode 18), followed by the documentary Trekkies, followed by the historical document Galaxy Quest.

Tastes vary. I suggest you rent a TV show if you have not seen it already. You can read reviews about video and audio quality but you will not know whether you like a show unless you have actually seen it. Consider this list just a suggestion for rental.

I keep editing this post because I remember another TV show I have on Blu-ray.

Band of Brothers (should be in a category of it's own)
24: Season 7 (love it)
The Prisoner (1968) Fantastic!
True Blood (Season 1 so far, I have not checked out Season 2 yet)
Rome (Season 1 again so far)
Star Trek, The Original Series: Season 1, 2, or 3 (like watching those old shows for the very first time).

Grey's Anatomy is great...but then again, only season 4 is available on blu-ray for some reason.
