Default Bigfoot hoaxer killed on highway

A man trying to create a Bigfoot hoax on a western Montana highway died after being hit by two cars, CNN reports.

Randy Lee Tenley dressed in a Ghillie suit — camouflage designed to resemble the ground and trees — and stepped out onto U.S. 93 Sunday night hoping to make people think they’d seen Bigfoot, his companions told authorities.

Instead, a 15-year-old girl hit him with her car, another car swerved, and a third car driven by a 17-year-old also ran him over, KECI-TV reported.

“He probably would not have been very easy to see at all,” said state trooper Jim Schneider.

Sure. Many states allow one to get their learner's permit at 15. She most likely had a legal driver in the car with her. If not, she's in a bit of trouble...

And the lesson of the day is: don't walk in front of highway traffic in a costume that's perfectly invisible at night.

I'd hate to be disrespectful, but...is this a contender for the Darwin Awards?

Very sad that he got killed because of a stupid 'prank'...but also an incredibly stupid thing that he did.

"I'm going to wear camouflage and walk into the road, they will definitely see me!"

How do they know that he was trying to do a bigfoot hoax if he died? Is this just the most logical reason?

Here in Iowa you can get a learner's permit at 14. With a learner's permit you have to have an adult over 25 in the car with you, but you can get school or work permits where you're allowed to drive alone if you are traveling to school (or a school activity) or work.

there are some pretty strict limitations for people that young though.

u almost always have to have an adult w/u.....and if i remember right (i missed these laws ), the "adult" can't be a sibling.

So no one is considering the damage this guy may have caused with this prank? If he was trying to freak people out by making them think they saw Bigfoot walking across the road, what did he think the drivers were going to do, slow down? No. If I saw some beast crossing the road at night, especially one I didn't recognize, I'd slam on the brakes. Which would make the person behind me smash into me, and the person behind them, etc. He could have caused a lot of damage and a lot of people could have been hurt.

This is HILARIOUS!! We all got a good laugh out of it at work before I left this morning. Definitely a front runner for the Darwin Award. Someone would have to come up with something spectacular to beat this guy out.

And with regard to the 15 year old girl driving, all I can say is that growing up in Georgia I got my learner's permit when I was 15. I just had to have a licensed driver over the age of 18 in the car with me when I drove (relationship didn't matter). I believe there were some other restrictions, but I no longer remember what they were. I don't see what the big deal is. However, that was 20 years ago and I don't know how the laws have changed since then.

Firearms ownership is regulated by federal law. 18+ years of age to own or possess a rifle or shotgun and 21+ years of age to own or possess a handgun. There can be exceptions to the handgun age for young individuals in the military or law enforcement. States can pass laws that are more restrictive than federal laws, but not less so.

Similarly, a federal mandate (not the same as a federal law) known as The National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984, required all states to raise the minimum drinking age to 21.
