Default Looking for some help on color choices

I just bought my first house and I'll be using one of the rooms as my dedicated home theater. The room is 10"x13" and already dry walled... I have plans for in wall wiring and whatnot, but those will have to wait until next summer. I just want to make due with what I have.

So basically what I'm looking for is some advice of paint colors. The room will have:

-dark laminate floors
-natural brown microfiber suede couch
-black movie style curtain around the TV

What type of color scheme should I go with on the ceiling and walls? What color should my molding be (white or stained)?

Thanks for any input.

I would go with a burgundy. I recently saw one this color and it turned out great. It should match both the couch and the curtain in your room.

Use the same color on the walls and ceiling? Or should I paint the ceiling black?

Trying to envision the room in my mind... not sure if white molding would work. Should I stain it and if so how dark of a stain should I use? I could probably go with white crown molding though.

You can use the same color as the walls, which I think works fine if you have some molding to separate them. You can also use a darker shade in the same color group, too. Use 'eggshell' or other low-sheen finishes, but note that 'flat' is horrible to work with and touch up...

Well, you can't really stain it if it's been painted, and the molding probably isn't stain-grade anyway, so even stripping the paint and staining wouldn't give a good result. I'd use the darkest color (darker than the walls/ceiling) in the color group. Same color for the crown. Can't recommend keeping any white trim in a theater. Next, change the outlets / switch plates for a brown/black/matching color to further hide any distractions...

I chose a dark brown mix of colors for mine - I didn't want to have an all-black/grey room.

Listen to this man. I was all about painting my front wall flat black. I decided to paint my ceiling a lighter flat colour and thank God that it's not darker, or I'd still be touching it up.

Seriously, you can't just touch a small area up, be prepared to paint an entire section in order to keep the the uniformity of the wall.

To see the colours I used, take a look at my build thread (I posted some paint chip choices).

Browsing through the Home Depot today and looking at paint chips and the different books they have on display and one of the designs caught my eye. It was in the book "ultimate man caves" by C.I.L.

The more I think about it, the more I really don't want my theater room to look like a dark cave when the lights are on. I would have never had thought of these colours, but the more I look at them, the more I like it. Just need to take the chips to the retail store where I bought my couch to check.

Of course my room doesn't look quite like this... but I do like the orange (Pumpkin Face) on the walls the grey (Gris Plateau) for the ceiling and the light gray (Pielier) for the base molding. I still plan on having dark laminate floors as well.

I'll still do my idea of a curtain surround for around the TV and have a combination of a bookshelf/DIY project to go under the TV to finish off the dark box-like idea around the TV. And I'll still be doing acoustical panels with either black or dark brown cloth (to match the curtain around the TV (probably black).

Thoughts?

So decided on my colours (I have attached them here). Pumpkin Face on the walls and Plateau Gray on the ceiling. To be finished off with black trim and a nice black viewing area to surround the TV and black acoustic panels.

Will post finished pictures when I eventually finish everything.
