Exclamation What Blu Ray player does the best job at upconverting DVD's to highest quality?

Hey everyone I am sort of a newbie and had a few hopefully simple questions about the newest crop of 3D Blu Ray players on the market.

First.

.Which low to mid price Blu Ray player does the best job at up-converting DVD's? Meaning Panasonic, Sony, etc. I would like to stick with tray versus slot loading as I hear slot can scratch DVD's over time and they are a pain in the neck when jammed.

.I heard the Oppo BDP 93 was excellent at up converting and now they replaced it with the 103 so I am guessing it will be as good or better. Any input on this?

Thank you very much for any advice.

Both the modern 2012 Sony and 2012 Panasonic Blu-ray players does an excellent job at upconvert to 1080P. The 2010 Panasonic models even have excellent upconverting to 1080P.

You can't get much better than a PS3 or a 2012 Sony player for DVD up-scaling quality. To get better, you would have to pay a lot of money and it would be for only a very very small improvement.

Sony S790, better than PS3. Has dual core processor. Go to hometheater.com and look at bluray reviews.

Also various reviewers are loving the 1080p form it both bluray and dvd!

Do they make that model in a NON-3D version? I'd like to get a solid upscaling Blu-ray player too but without the dual output.

I'm with Sonic, THe Oppo's, standalone Sony, and HTPC's also up-scale much better than the PS3 (especially the earlier 1st gen PS3's).

I didn't say you can't get better DVD image quality, I said you'd have to pay a lot of money (I.E. an Oppo) to get better. But its only going to be very small bit better. The overall image quality of DVDs on a PS3 is very high. Most of the improvements from other players comes in the de-interlacing and/or pull down detection. The PS3 fails some of those tests in benchmark software. Whereas newer Blu-ray players typically pass all of them.

My BDP-S390 from Sony passes all of those tests, but the overall image quality between the two with DVD is the same.
