Lol, This is for all you old stoners and heavy imbibers out there who might really enjoy a trippy experience - in 3D, no less...
![]() ![]() So, a buddy of mine was over the other night for a visit, and we spent some of the evening in my basement watching a 3D movie in The Frey Theater. I have a fairly nice projection theater setup in my basement, with a 120" screen, an Epson 3D projector, 5.1 surround using all large 15" floor-standing speakers, a 15" and dual 18" subwoofers, 5000 watts of amplifier power, and powerful butt shakers mounted under the three sofa seats. A somewhat rockin' good time, I will say...! ![]() Anyway, after the 3D movie was over, we decided to crank up some music on the system - Usually for this I startup my HTPC, stream some good trance music from Trance.FM or ETN.FM, and fire up a program called Soundspectrum G-Force. G-Force is a sound-activated kaleidoscopic program that runs as a plugin for WMP or RealPlayer, similar to the old Media Player visualizations, but with much more advanced graphics. It produces an array of spacey, full-screen graphics that moves to the music - Trance music especially makes the G-Force run wild with the beat - Boy, does G-Force look great on a huge screen like that, especially when sitting only 8 feet from the screen! Since we had just finished watching a movie in 3D, I mentioned to my buddy "Man, wouldn't G-Force be really cool in 3D? Too bad Soundspectrum doesn't offer a 3D version, I'd be all over that for sure!" Then it struck me - "Hey, wait a minute - my Epson 5010 3D projector has a 2D to 3D conversion mode in it - I wonder what G-Force would look like with that turned on?!" I began salivating at the thought as I powered up the HTPC and connected to the streaming music site. I got G-Force working well to the music at full screen, and then the critical moment arrived - we put on our 3D shutter glasses and powered them up, and then I switched the projector over from 2D to 3D-conversion mode. Oh... My... Gawd! ![]() Even though the conversion is a "fake-3D" mode, it still actually works quite impressively with G-Force - depending on the patterns and colors, sometimes the image would appear fairly flat, but most of the time it was like being inside a huge spherical or egg-shaped room, or looking down a long tunnel, with objects and patterns floating around at different depth levels. And when the patterns were rushing towards us - well, I think we "went plaid" more than a few times, lol! Ludicrous speed, anyone?! ![]() With my theater sound system cranked, the seat shakers making our butts start to go numb, and the in-your-face G-Force 3D conversion, it was a totally awesome roller-coaster experience! With the huge sceen image filling our view plus the added dimensionality of the projector's conversion, we were totally enveloped in a 3D kaleidoscope world! I definitely recommend trying this out if you have a 2D-3D conversion setting on your TV or projector - just be sure to sit close - and perhaps imbibe heavily beforehand!! ![]() ![]() Here is a short video of G-Force in action I made a few years ago, just to give you an idea of the experience, in 2D at least... ![]() |
