Coincidentally I just watched this. It has the DVD transfer but in high definition and with lossless audio. It is also region free. It looks and sounds perfect to me.

I got the 101 DALMATIANS disc. PQ is good but the disc feels like a budget affair. You can't even select a chapter whilst watching the movie - you have to go back to the main menu, like DVD. Are Disney just dumping no-frills discs on Europe early and waiting to release proper versions in the US? |

Sure Tarzan is a no frills disc with a flickering transfer and lossy DD5.1 but its the only Euro release I can think of that has been a let down and with no US release to compare it too we don't even know how it will compare, they could end up with the exact same disc. Thanks James.
To look at it the opposite way, everything from the 2 disc DVD is on the Blu-Ray, apart from:
Both the 2 disc DVD and the Blu-Ray have an aspect ratio of 1.33:1 ('full screen'), which was the intended aspect ratio. I've read online that in the pastv a widescreen version was released. Is that right? I'm pleased that the Blu-Ray is the intended aspect ratio, but I would be interested in seeing a widescreen version, if it isn't just a cropped version. If anyone has a widescreen version could they possibly do a comparison? |
