Default My first home & first theatre!

G'day all,

Thought i'd start a thread to see if i can get some constructive critism on my new theatre which i've always wanted to do with my first home (which is happening now ).

I'm 23, Australian with not a lot of cash.. so i have to make do with what i have haha! When applying for my first home, i made damn sure that i altered the Theatre room to what i really wanted. It was hard work as Building companies don't really like to make to many serious alterations but i wasn't going to do this half-assed as this is something i've always wanted.

Anyway, it's not much but i've put everything in terms of basics into it and i'd like to hear what everyone else has to say in the way of tips and hints

The room is 6.8m x 5.2m (screen positioned on the short wall of course). It was a tiny 4.5m x 3.2m before i got my hands on the drawing.. haha!

I had the option of building the room with acoustic bricks instead of normal bricks so i jumped a that option as i really don't have the funds to acoustically treat the room properly.

As per Australian law, each room needs to have a window.. which sucks so i opted for the smallest window possible. My plans are to runt thick blockout curtains either side of the room to block out any light that may come through the window, and to add some sound deadening as the room is quite echoey.

In one corner of the room, i added in a storage section to put all my equipment on a stand-up equipment rack. This section has a dead-lock door which can be access through the garage if i need to get behind the equipment to plug/change connections. Once again, this section will be covered with the block-out curtain.

I have only just finished painting the entire room in an extremely dark brown. Picture makes it look alot brighter than it actually is due to flash but i assure you, it's pitch black inside the room during the day

Enough of the story, i've added a few pictures:

The theatre it'self:

Projector (Epson TW6000):

I also have a Redleaf 110" screen which i don't have a photo for yet. Will update once everything is up and installed.

As for speakers, unfortunately due to funds, i'm stuck with my old Yamaha HTiB 5.1 setup however, i have a budget of $1500 to purchase new speakers... any recommendations? Please keep in mind that i'm in Australia and most sites from the US don't post here without charging a fortune.

I will be running 8 downlights through the ceiling in a S-pattern, as well as building a platform for second teir seating.

It's all go and i cannot wait!

Thanks,
Craig

welcome to the forum.

for the speakers, i'd suggest you go audition speakers at the local shops and see what you like based on what you have heard and what you can get in AUS

Hallo!

Thought i'd update this with a photo of the completed room. Pretty much only thing left to do is carpet the riser and get me some better speakers

Not the best photo im sorry:
